Is it worth buying the more EXPENSIVE Brands of MakeUp?

Or are all Brands practically the same?

Because i'm getting pretty sick of spending alot of money on makeup and want to know whether the cheaper varieties will work just as well.

Any suggestions? Is it worth buying the more EXPENSIVE Brands of MakeUp?
No, it's definitely not worth it. I have an expensive kind and a cheap kind, and actually... I like the cheap kind better. :]Is it worth buying the more EXPENSIVE Brands of MakeUp?
There are somethings worth spending money on and others are hit and miss.

I will fork out £20 for foundation/£10 Concealor but spend only £3 on bronzer and blusher.

Everyones different as are some products. Its what works for you. I have a slight inkling that some products are just the same thing but packaged differently. Mascara in paticular.

Make up is just one of lifes little missions i think we will be forever trying new things wheter we want/need to or not!!
It's all in the name and brand packaging, personally I think cheaper brands are just as good, it's the canvas you use so look after your skin first.
The cheaper one's don't last very long on your skin....the more expensive make up is far better.
really you'll have to try them out for yourself.

Some cheap brands are good, as are expensive ones. Don't rule out the cheaper varieties, but neither ignore the pricey ones.

ask around and see which brands are best for different types of makeup. Try out some testers and see what you like. Some cheaper brands make just as good quality products as the expensive ones.. but then this isn't always the case.

Overall - experiment! Find what you like and shop round until you find out how good you find the cheaper brands for yourself. I don't believe every piece of makeup you buy has to come with a ridicolous price tag - but sometimes they are worth it.

Hope I helped. good luck x
When it comes to eyeshadow and lipstick, etc., i dont think it really matters, but for stuff that goes right on your skin, like foundation and powder, i think that it is worth the money. Bad foundation and powder can clog your pores and do alot of other bad things.
thats a tough question. in my own personal experience, i've found expensive concealers and foundations to be the best. the cheaper kinds have left my skin with a kind of burning sensation. the quality is lower there... but also i have a gold eyeshadow that cost $1 from the dollar store and it is amazing. my friends actually believe its from some high end brand like M.A.C. because its surprisingly high quality. whereas i have an eyeshadow that cost alot more and i have to put on several coats of it to make it stand out.
It depends on the brand. I've tried Lancome, Estee Lauder, etc. but I prefer other brands. Some drug store brands are really really good. Or even Avon cosmetics. Besides Lancome %26amp; Loreal are owned by the same company. Same products, different name.
It depends on the make-up. Personally, my mom doesn't like me buying cheap make-up, because you ARE putting it on your face. Eyeshadow doesn't have to be expensive, but foundation, concealer, mascara usually shouldn't be cheap. Eyeliner, you can just go buy a 6$ kohl and it should be fine.

Hope I helped!
It has been proven time and time again that inexpensive makeup is no better or worse than department store makeup. What it all comes down to is what you prefer. Eyeshadows for example, I never seem to find any at a drugstore that have enough pigment in them. That's my personal opinion, someone else out there might love drugstore eyeshadows.

There also is not one brand that does everything well. It's all about picking and choosing from different makeup lines to come up with a handful of products that work for you. I personally love my Rimmel Lasting Finish foundation, but I pair it with Cargo's somewhat expensive Blu-Ray mattifier.

You can read up on different products at www.makeupalley.com
I buy MAC foundation and powder which is more pricey but definetly the most suitable for my skin. I think you get what you pay for.
Not really

I find Chanel a bit cakey

If you're going to buy a premiem brand, choose Clinique..

Dermologically tested and all then

Great for your skin

Just generally amazing

Liplglosses are about £9

Mascaras are about £10 which really isn't that bad if you've got a bit more money to spend

xx
Def invest in good quality (usually more expensive) make up brands! I use estee lauder foundation and powder compact! also a good mascara but as for lippies and eye shadows i buy cheapies!

However if u look after ur skin and remove ur make up at night perhaps cheaper brands would still be ok!
They don't! You get what you pay for. All brands aren't the same. Stick with what you know. Changing to a cheaper brand could mess up your skin. It's so not worth it.

Good Luck
no it's not really worth it you should compare 2 different products.....................

BarryM is a cheap but professional make-up brand!!!! I use it all the time and it always impresses my friends

www.barrym.com
It depends, foundation is always worth buying a decent expensive one same with mascara and powder.

Loreal does good lip gloss and blusher which are just the same as the ones for £20.
i use both kinds of makeup. i like chanel's lipsticks but i also like the lash blast mascara from covergirl.
usually the more expensives brands are better for your skin. cheap ones will block your pores and give you pimples. make sure that theres no oil in the products try a water based product, and dont apply thick coats. a good brand of make up that have better prices but arent really cheap is CLINIQUE, i use it alot.
the Kind Of expensive ones, in my experience, are better, eg. mac, jemma kidd, urban decay. the really cheap ones are absolute rubbish and bad for your skin. i'd go for somewhere in between. apparently l'oreal is made by the same person who makes Lancome. so the really expensive ones aren't really worth it. x
you really dont need expensive brands to look good.

honestly!

and its a complete lie that the more expensive ones are better for your skin, loads of cheaper brands do mineral foundations and powders, and they are always good!

benefit, barry m and boujours are amazing!
yes. Clinique. works like wonder.
no i find mac reli gud compared with cheap stuff lyk rimmel etc.
You can always try a more less expensive brand, but the expensive 1s are like tht for a reason!...my fav brands are Bourjois %26amp; Benefit, %26amp; Rimmel do great foundations in my opinion...%26amp; this brand isnt expensive at all!

...Hope this helps love! :D
yes they are more worth it

let's put it this way, i used to buy walmart makeup when i first started being attached to makeup, such as eyeshadows, and guess what? by the midday my eyelids look patched LOL realy really bad LOL

now i use mac and smashbox eyeshadow

and they last all day =)

by the night time it's like i just put it on LOL very good quality

and also the cheap makeup might appear a lot, but when you have to use a ton on your eyes before it's even set LOL

yet mac and smashbox, their eyeshadows might appear small bottled, but so concentrated, a little will last a long way

so in quality and quantity wise, totally worth it

and that's just eyeshadow example LOL

imagine the quality when it comes to foundation =)

i want to add on a bit more regarding to the person who said lancome and l'oreal are owned by the same company, true they are owned by same compnay but they deliver different quality. ok let's give you an example that you are probably familiar with (cars hehe), toyota cars and lexis are owned by the same company (toyota) yet lexis is more highend delivery better quality and better than rest of toyota cars ya know

same with makeup

two brands might be owned by the same company doens't mean their quality is the same
I think its definately better to buy a dearer mascara but eyeshadows etc just buy what you like because its all the same.
it just depends on the makeup you are wanting to get
I wear make-up every day and have done for years and I get complimented on my make-up quite a lot but I never buy expensive brands (Avon is my best friend, lol - I get nice new make-up every fortnight and don't even have to get off my @rse).

I think it's more to do with getting the right colouring for your skin and the right techniques.
Oh yes! I use Mac and allsorts of expensive brands because i can't bare the devastating look of cheap make up! it is soooo worth the extra money to look and feel good i say! spend spend spend.......
I am a cosmetic chemist/makeup artist and basically all main stream commercial products are crap and cost about $.50 to make. You are paying for the celebrity endorsements, the jars and packaging. The are mainly made out of propelyne glycol (an ingredient used as a wetting agent in anti-freeze and break fluid) they use cheap fillers such as talc, mineral oils, petrol products. Mary kay's products have formeldehyde in them, Loreal has Lead in their products, Mac, chanel, clinique etc.... all cheap cheap cheap ingredients that will really do nothing for your skin. For example if you read the ingredients many of them use the above mentioned propelyne glycol which is known to cause contact dermatitis and inhibits skin cell growth and alters cell membranes, yet it is used in everything from drug store brands to department store brands because IT IS CHEAP TO MAKE!! Check out your favorite brands at www.cosmeticsdatabase.com and www.notjustaprettyface.org. If you truly want a product worth the money that will give you results. Go Natural/ Organic. The ingredients in these cosmetics can cause big bucks, such as shea butter, jojoba oil, herbal extracts ect.... they cost more because simply they work better. Mother nature knows best. I guarantee you with time you will see a decline in your skin using commercial brands. I use faerie organic www.faerieorganic.com on my clientel as it all natural, and actually gives great results. Mineral makeup is truly the best out there, when it is a natural no preservative brand.
You never know what the cheap one is made off. Try and compare - the feel, the look all will be different.
It's worth it if it is made without all the harsh chemicals and animal by-products that almost all make up companies use in their make up and skin care products. I use Arbonne make up and skin care. They do not use any ';crap'; in it and I know it is safe to use and worth spending the extra on it.
