Brushes are expensive for a few reasons, the first is that most high quality brushes are made from animal hair, so factor in the cost of feed, housing and proper care for that animal that helped make your brush. Secondly, regulations and animal rights groups have cracked down on the industry, so the process of collecting hair for a brush is not what it used to be. In most cases they aren't just chopping it off and making it into a brush. Sometimes they brush the animal so that the hairs fall out naturally. This is a long process considering how many strands are in a single brush. The glue, wood for the handle and the whole assembly process also factor in. A good brush will be made with a high quality glue and a strong tie, that will drive the cost up.





Cheap brushes are made of synthetic fibers and low quality adhesive so they tend to loose more strands and fall apart quicker.





My favorite brushes are from Smash box and Laura Merci er. I also like the Heavenly face brush by Bare Essentials.Why are makeup brushes so expensive?
Because of what they are made of and because they are made to last a long time. I think it is always good to invest in a really good brush that will last a long time and do the job right apposed to spending money buying cheap brushes over and over. Don't get me wrong, you can find some decent brushes at cheap prices.
