Do you really think there's that much difference between expensive and less expensive makeup?

Do you think that the more makeup costs the better you will look? Using a few examples,do you think Estee Lauder is better than Covergirl,or Clinque is better than Almay and if so why?Do you really think there's that much difference between expensive and less expensive makeup?
yes, there is a difference in the quality, cheaper brands also often use animal testing. i am using bare minerals by bare escentuals, the foundation costs 25.00, but lasts me about one year, with daily use - that's 2.08/month, which is cheaper than any ';cheap'; brand in the long run.Do you really think there's that much difference between expensive and less expensive makeup?
Yes. It all depends on how your face reacts to the quality of the product.

I tried the Sally Hansen No Color Mousse Foundation, ended up with an orange face. Do not recommend it, or any other beauty product. All they do is clog up the landfill and expose chemicals to nature.

If you must buy make-up, buy the ones that are in recycable containers.
well cheap make-up isn't going to do much difference to your looks and neither the expencieve one , cause you will expect the best from it and you'll get disspaointed. my advice is to buy something between them...
I write a beauty column for a glossy women's magazine, and I also do product reviews for a women's travel blog, so I have a lot of experience with high and low end products. Here's how I break it down:

There's little difference between expensive, midrange and inexpensive products for the most part, provided the makeup is made with a high level of pimentation saturation, which means that it would take less of the product to produce a good color on the face. This applies to everything that has a color (not talking about skincare or moisturizers here).

While the high end products, yes, usually have more pigment, some of the low ends do too, L'Oreal H.I.P. being an example. Additionally Rimmel products tend to have a high pigment content, as do Maybelline mascaras, Cover Girl blushes, and Sally Hansen lip colors.

Here's my take on it though. If you like to change your look all the time, and you don't wear the same colors every day, go for the inexpensive versions of high end colors (if you can find them - this takes a little investigation on your part). You don't want this season's LORAC color that you paid a lot of money for tossed aside by next season. If you wear the same colors all the time, go ahead and splurge a little for some of the expensive things you feel you absolute HAVE to have, but don't go crazy with it.

Honestly, the bottom line is that ALWAYS buying high end products is just a status thing, and generally a fine waste of money.

Personally, I'd rather spend the extra cash on a great Mason Pearson brush, or Frederic Fekkai hair products.
Clinique and Almay are both good, but Clinique is way better than Covergirl. I think Clinique makes better foundations and powders than Almay, some products may be vastly superior than others. In general, cheaper makeup tends to look more cakey and unnatural. The goal of all makeup is natural beauty.
Both will get the job done but expensive makeup is usually better for your skin, less likely to cause acne and provides a better, more natural finish. Makeup is one of those things in life where you pretty much get what you pay for. I use an expensive line called CoverFX available in Canada and it invariably looks better than my sister's Cover Girl. Also, the more expensive lines often provide specific solutions for specific skin problems and offer a greater variety of shades for all kinds of different skin tones.
Yes there IS a difference. I use Bee-Luscious. Their line of make-up and skincare are even of better quality than Estee Lauder and Clinique. As for the reason why. I can't accurately put it into words to explain why, the only thing I can tell you is to try it and then you will see for yourself.
who cares about the price $$

decide on the type of make up u like and if you think it covers well or what ever you would like it for you know

so ignore the price and go for what u want
Definitely. I've never used Almay, but Estee Lauder is way better than Covergirl. Covergirl makeup tends to rub off faster than regular makeup, and doesn't look as good or go on as well as more pricey makeup. Maybelline is pretty good quality though, better than Covergirl for sure, but mainly with their mascaras and lipglosses. For a lot lip products, especially lip plumper, high-quality stuff is better. Lipstick, I find, is not much different no matter where you buy it. Eyeliner doesn't go on well and fades/smudges easily from most places, but occasionally you can find good drugstore eyeliner, but most upper-class makeup brands have excellent eyeliner and mascara. For skin products, the only way to go is expensive. It's so much better for your skin and it looks better, too. Some foundations look OK from drugstores, but nowhere near as good as Lancome/Clinique.
Not really, but when it comes to skin care, I would test on myself. I bought an over the counter sunblock it gave my face oily, when I purchased a branded one, it was way far better.
For foundations and eyeshadows, it's probably worth the splurge because they make your skin look better. Finding a good cheap lip gloss or stick shouldn't be so hard, and I swear by that Maybelline mascara with the pink bottle and the green top. It's ridiculously popular and probably about $4 at a drug store.
yes i do think that is mostly true. most of the more expensive brands have a higher quality, better range of colors and smoother texture. you can look at some of the cheaper brands i.e. wet n wild or the nyc brands and can tell there is a difference if you compare it to maybelline, loreal and the higher end products like mac and clinique.
You know I was right there with you until I started using Bare Minerals. I find that most drug store makeup and department store makeup are the same. In fact, you will find a lot of the big name companies also one the ';little'; ones, I believe Loreal is also owned by Estee Lauder, and Maybelline is owned by a big department level brand.

For a few years I had graduated up to Clinique and I was still unhappy. I have big pores and I couldn't find a makeup that looked natural.

By chance I went ahead and tried Bare Minerals, I hate the price but I really love the quality, it truly is unlike other makeups out there. I even tried Loreal's Mineral Makeup line after that and it was nothing like it. (More cakey looking).

So I guess my answer is no, and yes. Department stores and drugs stores are virtually the same, but certain products like Bare Minerals exceed customer expectations by and far. Good luck!
i don't know it all depends. the $55 bottle of foundation irritates susy's skin, but the $5 drugstore bottle of foundation doesn't. You just don't know...?
