Oh yes. Covergirl just came out with a line of minerals in foundation, blush, and bronzer. I've always trusted Covergirl, and these new products give you a good coverage and color, while making your skin look luminous.

I'm not sure which one, but Maybelline or L'Oreal also has a line of minerals. These work very very well.

Jane also has a line, but their skin products aren't very good, and besides, they test on animals so...

If your skin is more sensitive, Physician's Formula has line of minerals that you can trust for allergies, acne, and such.

Some drugstore products measure up to department store lines. You just have to know which brands to trust.

Mineral makeup is the best way to go because they're natrual and more natrual ingredidents inward them and you should consider getting oil-free makeup too to prevent acne and major breakouts. Try netrugena oil-free makeup, it hides acne the whole day while covering it up. Mineral makeups are good for sensitive and oily skin. They tend to be a little drying if you already have dry skin. You don't have to get bare essentials or whatever for it to be good. Physicians Formula is a brand you can find at walmart for like $10, and it is completely safe for sensitive skin, oily skin, or dry skin. It is talc free, and there are different varieties to choose from. Hope this helped a little.

PS....I have eczema so this is a really good makeup for me.
I have been using bare essentials and its very expensive. But no other minerals have made my skin clear and clean with such a light finish, way worth it, only use there foundation and blush. Anything else and you are wasting your money!
I dnt think Bare Essentials is that good. It doesn't cover much of anything. You might want to buy some cheap ones first and see if you like it. I prefered the physicians mineral powder more which was under $10. compared to Bare minerals.

I'm looking for a set of makeup brushes but I've noticed that many of the sets that I've don't have a foundation brush which was recommended by a makeup artist. What other brushes should come in the set and what do they look like and how should I use them? I'm new to the makeup thing. Also, I bought Bobbi Brown's gel eyeliner. I was told by a friend that I don't have the right brush to apply it. What brush should I use for that? The M.A.C. Brush sets are ideal for a begginer. They are somewhat expensive but if you treat them right they will last for years. Plus, you can build a solid and reliable brush set from them. Btw, most of your brushes should be soft and feel comfortable on your skin.

But the ideal set to me:

Foundation brush: Should be slightly firm. Like a paint brush it should command the foundation not the other way around.

Big powder brush: Should be soft on the face and have a big radius.

Small blush brush: Should be soft with a medium radius. As a rule I use this brush exclusively for my red/main blush that goes on the apple of my cheeks.

Angled blush brush: Should be soft. I use this exclusivly for my under eye highlight and lowerlight colors. This makes it so I don't have to keep cleaning my other blush brush

Medium shadow brush: For covering entire eye area or large amounts.

Small shadow brush: For the lids. This brush is better at confined area work.

Blending brush: usualy used in creases but it will blend anywhere. Just use circular movments to distribute the makeup.

Fine/thin angled liquid liner brush: for well... eyeliner and other very fine detail work. Can help color eyebrows.

Don't forget that many brushes can serve more than one purpose. Ex: I use my angled eye liner brush to color my eyebrows with residual eyeliner. I smudge my eye liner with my small shadow brush. You get the point.

Note: The less complicated makeup you do the less brushes you need. Don't get pressured into buying more than you feel you can handle. And always talk to a makeup artist when you go into a store (especialy if you're buying). They know the products and can help you get a better understanding of the tricks of the trade.

This may sound funny but, i buy mine at walgreens. it is really good make-up and works really well. if your skin is very pale, gray, purple, or pink is good. if your skin is dark use dark colors. any brand at walgreens is good. And the make-up is not that expensive.

I use Covergirl lash blast %26lt;--- BEST MASCARA EVER! Black. $8 at CVS or something like that.

Foundation all depends on skin tone... Usually about $12 average. You can get it cheap though.

Blush, go for a light to medium pink.

Eyeliner (the best part of makeup)

Cover-up for when you need it :) There's liquid and stick. I use the stick, but I know others use liquid. I just think the stick covers more.

The Body Shop has nice stuff, but it can get expensive sometimes. GREAT products though. I usually just go down the makeup aisle at CVS.

Well you can never go wrong with earthtones and they will be much better for school because you will not be overdoing it and it will appear natural. Covergirl and maybelline are good brands. Cover Girl has a quad eyeshadow that is called country woods and its pretty good. I put a darker line in the crease of your lid and then a lighter on lower lid and then an even lighter shade at the top of your lid and then use an eyeliner which I use a pencil and if you're on a budget wal-mart has like love my eyes pencils for like a dollar and then mascara and a blush and light lipstick and you'll look great!
try Almay, they have foundation that turns into your ideal foundation (it comes in light, light/medium, medium and deep/ for darker skin people)

they also have the blush and bronzer theat transforms into your ideal shade, they have products to ';Play up'; and ';bring out'; the color of your eyes (shadow, mascara and liner, for: blue, hazel, brown %26amp; green eyes)

wel the link doesnt work for me but from what i see on ur avatar thing, ur pretty tan so anything that brings out summer glow is great. gold and brown eyeshadow for a sexy smoky look, nude lipgloss and bronzer. if you go to the pharmacy, theres a million brands but since u said not too expensive im not recommending sephora or mac. actually, macs okay when it comes to their prices but dont buy their brushes cuz they go for like 24 dollars which is ridiculous. mac hands down has the best eyeshadows. but covergirl is very reliable when it comes to foundations and bronzers and stuff like that.

DON'T use CoverGirl or Maybeline. It's the WORST make up for your skin (says my cosmetologist.) Use Neutrogena or Almay, if you can't afford the stuff from Macy's. If you can, use Perspective Minerals.

Well the best is Mineral Liquid Powder Foundation it is really very light but with full coverage , you won't even know you have anything on, the cost is around 30.00 but a little goes a long way from my experience the tube lasts longer than 6 months so really in the long run its less expensive than the drug store brands because they don't last as long. Loreal has a great product. I use it %26amp; LOVE it! It is fairly inexpensive (around 11.00 @ WalMart)
The mineral makeup is really not all that spectacular. It doesn't work well on dark circles, and quite honestly it's just another one of those gimmick products. Everyone jumped on the bandwagon just ebcause it said ';natural.';

The best product I've found is StudioFix by MAC. It's a powder form of foundation, and you can easily adjust the coverage witha brush or dampened sponge. For undereye circles, they have an excellent concealer witha wand (I forgot the product name.) Just make sure you go to the MAC store or counter and are properly matched to a color.

Don't bother buying cheap makeup - you'll only get cheap results. The MAC foundation is about 25 dollars and lasts me at least 3 months with daily application.

I'm using the L'Oreal Bare Minerals makeup and I like it a lot. It's SO easy to appy and it evens out my skintone and looks very natural on, almost like no makeup at all. You know, ';me'; only a lot better! You will still need to use a creamy concealer to help cover any dark circles under your eyes but that will be the case no matter what foundation you use.

i've tried everyday minerals and bare minerals...stuck with bare minerals for about a year...it isn't too expensive once you get the starter kit. i like everyday minerals more, suits more skin types, but i stopped using both because they didn't give me enough coverage. if you're looking for something natural that's going to give you sheer to medium coverage at best i would say go with everyday minerals it's just as good if not better than bare minerals and a lot less expensive. i use MAC cosmetics now and i am really starting to love it. hope that helps.

I'm rather new to makeup, and don't want to spend a ton if I'm mostly going to be experimenting.

I like bold colors of eyeliner and eyeshadow, and occasionally colored mascara.

I know Sephora Brand is inexpensive, but I was looking for something more well-made, because that stuff seems pretty generic.

Also, I don't want to use drugstore brands on my eyes, because some people say that they're cheaply made and can cause eye-infection/irritation.

I have a ';scene'; makeup style, but don't load it on.

And if you know any perfumes that don't cost a load of money, that'd be awesome.

Tips would help too!

I'm 12, so I don't want to spend a ton, I have to use my own money, I'm just experimenting because this is the first year I'm allowed to wear [light] makeup to school. Please don't comment saying things like ';You're too young, go play outside!'; or ';Does your mother know that you're wearing this?'; because my parents are well-aware of what I do. Also, please don't say that I should go ';natural'; or ';sheer'; because I don't like doing that, since it's just taking up time in the mornings to see a plain face, not practical, in my opinion.

(P.S. My skin isn't sensitive, so that isn't something I have to be concerned about)

MAC is probably the best for colors.. they have an awesoem product called pigment... really bold eye shadow. It is not the cheapest makeup but not the most expensive either. Since your only 12 you should get some makeup at Icing, like a big case and you can see what looks best on you. When you get to be 15 or 16 you might want to spend more on maybe Mary Kay or Mac but your too young to use that much money on makeup.

Almay, neutrogena, dove and physician's formula all work for the face and are reasonably priced. Each product works with your type of face and you have to buy one product at a time to find the one that you feel comfortable with. Clinique has good/bad effects on people. But any product you have to test to see if you have any allergic reactions to it. Everyone's skin is different.

I have redness on my cheeks and nose. It looks okay, unless I get hot or embarassed, and then I go BRIGHT RED. Is there any way to fix this without spending money on a facial lotion? (I already have a pricey moisturizer and cleanser for evening skin tone, and it sorta works.....) I don't want to wear makeup on my face unless I have to, because I'm only a teen and I don't want to cover up my skin or ruin it or something!? HELP!Anyway to tone down facial redness, without buying an expensive facial lotion or using makeup?
Easy to do.

Before washing you face, apply ONE of the following.

1) 2 tablespoons Pepto Bismal (liquid medicine) to the entire face. Leave on for 2-3 minutes. Then rinse it off. Gently wash face with soap and pat dry. Peptobismol contains clay, which will tighten your pours and even out your skin tone.

2) Cut a lime in 1/2. Rub the juicy part of the lime against your skin. (Be careful not to get lime in your eye). Let the juice stay on your skin for 2 minutes. Then rinse off. Use a mild soap to wash your face and pat dry. Lime juice contains special acids which will exfoliate the skin and even the skin tone, and will fade freckles/uneven pigmentation.

Doing either of these 3 times a week will get rid of redness.

Plus, you should try wearing rice powder + a suitable sunscreen when you go outside. Put on the sunscreen first and then dust a little rice powder over your face.

However, fake tanning (not orange tans, I mean brown tans) will even out your skin tone too.Anyway to tone down facial redness, without buying an expensive facial lotion or using makeup?

Just about anything MAC. They have fun colors to play with and they are great at helping you pick what will be best. If you are looking for a bronzer; try estee lauder. The matte bronzer is great (single color not the duo). I have freckles too and it doesn't cover them at all ;-)
kk... u should use lancome eyeliner.... it goes on sooo smooth and perfect. onlyput it on the top of ur eye.... everything i use is lancome and its a bit expensive but its great. u can find it at like macys dillards or jcpenny.... u can also ask for a makeover there and they'll give u tips!!

you have good skin so I say you but the mascara. It really helps define your lashes.

ill recommend a few things and colors that woud work really well.

a light pink lipstick- just dab a little on your fingers and touch them to your lips, itll bring out your cheekbones, witch will illuminate those freckles!!

a soft golden eyeshadow- what i do is wet a thin liner brush and line my top eylids with the shadow, i go for a winged look. then brush a champagne sparkley shadow over top, then line your eyes again, itll bring out the blue!

purple mascara- your eyes are really pretty, so start your eyelashes off with a black, waterproof, slim coat of mascara, one coat!! then, take some purple mascara, [jane is a great brand, you can find it at most drugstores] and do teh tips of all your lashes, put 2 coats of the purple on. you may not see it right away, but some people will notice, and it brings out the undertones in your eyes [:

well.. 2 start off.. ur really pretty.. so u dont wanna over do it.. u also have pretty fair sskin, so u wanna stay away frm bright reds.. now.. i would take ur eyes and put a light coat of eyeliner.. then, put some maybelline maskera( cause that stuff wrks sooooo good) and i would either do soft browns, and pinks.. but if u wanna go crazy.... orange is ur color...:] so if ur wearin a brite orange top.. u can make it wrk by taking BRIGHT orange eyeshadow, and applying it real close 2 ur eyelash and as u apply the rest of the eye.. let the color fade out... then apply sparkles to soften ur look... this also works if u want a smokey brown... hope this helped!!

I am not embarrased to say I have stole a ton of makeup. In highschool I had a bad acne problem and my mother spent alot of money on nice makeup for me. I also had a job and no bils so I spent my money on makeup. Now that I am in college, I have no money for makeup, and the prices on the stuff angers me! I think its unfair like $65 for a compact of powder? WTF?

I worked at a makeup store my first year of collge, ULTA, and most of the girls that worked there stole. So did the customers. My friend stole so much she had drawers full of makeup! I think thats a little bit obsessive. But I did steal enough to get me by because I couldn't afford it.

I have stolen alot, but I don't anymore. It isn't right and nothing can justify it, but, I bet those cosmetic stores still made profit with those ridiculous prices, even with what I stole.POLL - do any of you girls take makeup from stores cause its too expensive? ?
Just because something is expensive does not give anyone the right to take it. Nothing angers me more than people that try to justify taking something that isn't theirs. You have to remember that it's the manufacturers and distributors, not the stores, that sets the base price. Yes there is a mark up but it's not as much as you might think.

There are plenty of alternatives to expensive makeup and not all of them are complete crap. Rimmel, NYX, even sometimes Wet n' Wild offer great products that are incredibly inexpensive.

The ';i'm poor'; excuse is a terrible one. Get a job and you'll have money.
I don't steal it, but I know what you mean. The prices of some stuff, or actually most stuff nowadays is ridiculous. They have eyeshadow that are like 13 bucks, mascaras that are 20, foundation that can be almost 30 bucks. Even just for the basics it costs a lot. And then they tell you you should replace your makeup every few months.

Theft is probably a major problem though, cuz I know in the Shopper's that I buy makeup at they have camera's everywhere.

A lot of people do. I worked in a cosmetics dept. and it's amazing how many open boxes and trashed wrappers are found ( to trash the security tag ) people do it all the time. even condoms i found stolen A LOT. and expensive face creams, like OLAY.
If I can't afford it, I go with a cheaper brand or do without. Stealing is pretty low...bad karma...and eventually the thief gets caught. The punishment is so NOT worth $10 of krap to smear on your face.

Origins brand makes a wonderful eye makeup remover that actually works and is very, very gentle. I have a problem with dry eye and I develop styes if I use anything too harsh. I switched to this a few years ago and have not had a problem since.

I like baby oil with aloe vera. It's less than $2 at Wal Mart, Target, etc. Apply a bit on a cotton pad (package also about $2) and wipe across eye. Keep repeating the process until you are eye makeup free. Then I would suggest washing your face with your regular cleanser. The baby oil also makes your eyelashes prettier!
I've always used cold cream and hypoallergenic baby wipes. Cold cream comes in a lot of varieties, I look for one that's for sensitive skin.
I don't use makeup remover to get it off, but I just use Olay Body Quench; or just a regular moisturizer you have.

Apply a thin layer to your lids, then wipe it off.

It's a little bit messy, but it's cheap and shouldn't hurt your eyes.
i think the best thing to use is olay face wipes. you can get them at walmart, im not sure how much they are but i think there around 10 or 15 dollars. they even come in travel sizes. theres two kinds, one for sensitive skin and one for other skin types. it removes every kind of makeup...Good Luck!

The best- and probably most expensive- cream is Orlane Absolute Skin recovery cleansing serum eyes. It's so good that some people use it as an eye cream- not just as an eye makeup remover (which is what it is labeled as). the brand is kirkland by borghese it was like a set of 12 brushes that came in a very pretty carrying case I think I paid like $30 or less than that.

sephora professional brushes, sonia kashuk brushes from target, beauty of essence brushes, and ulta professional brushes.

I have some from each line and I love them all. the sephora and ulta brushes are a bit more expensive than the sonia kashuk and beauty of essence brushes.

I would check Coastal Scents too, they have a very good brush section, I've got my eye on a few brushes myself. I don't have any of their burshes yet, but I have heard very good things about them.
Sephora brand but....only buy a few. These are the ones that need to be good quality:

1. one good eyeshadow brush

2. one good blush brush

3. one good brush for applying concealer

And any other brush needed for makeup you do on a regular basis.

My secret tip: natural paintbrushes. They are way cheaper. I got my fave pointed eyeliner brush at the dollar-more-store.

I've used $80 brushes and $2 Brushes..just try and find soft ones... stay away from the nasty synthetic black ones.. your local drugstore/ pharmacy.. make up place.. lol.. should have good ones for around $20 or less.. you really dont need to spend $80+ on a flippin makeup brush! Lip and Foundation brushes are a waist of time and money.. I've seriously spent thousands of dollars on makeup.. big brand names like Dior, YSL ect are very similar to the ones you see in all the malls.. the only thing id spend big money on is foundation.. as for your brushes, don't look at price.. look at the quality.. go have a look at the big name ones and then head to the mall and look for the same thing.. i guarantee you will find the same for less!!

I used to not wear makeup because I absolutely hated the part where I have to take it off! A few months ago, I started using ';You clean up nice!'; by Benefit Cosmetics. It removes all your makeup AND cleanses your face in one quick step! It even removes waterproof mascara (which is what I really disliked having to wipe off!). One bottle may seem a bit pricey ($23)... but I've had the same bottle since the start of October 2007... that's almost 5 months now... and despite using it twice a day, it still isn't time to move on to the next bottle!

I have THE most sensitive skin... and this just feels so mild and calming even though it is so effective in removing makeup... I love it!

use a cotton pad to wipe away makeup, then wash the face normally. if there is still makeup residue, use a tiny bit more eye makeup remover.
Olive oil. Not only does it does it remove makeup, but it's accually very good for your skin and it doesn't have chemicals in it that makeup removers have.
well for eye makeup i use some cotton wool with warm water and a bit of vaseline. v.cheap, v.easy and v.effective!

I like Almay, you can get it at any drugstore.
Loreal has some really great make-up removers out there. They get rid of make-up well without drying out your skin. And they don't sting if you have blemishes.

I have loads of foundations, and i think for your case its how u use ur concealers and foundations. first put on light coloured concealer on dark circles, pimples, all spots that are uneven.. a light color about 3 times lighter than you rskin, i know it looks weird at first, but then you put tan colored concealer on the places where you put the lighter concealer and blend it in to match you skin color. you can keep on doing this belnding thing until you reach coverage you need for you spots. try to target places like under ur eyes, on your pimples, forehead, chin and nose evern if you dont have sopos there this will make the make up look more natural. then after this i know it will look like u have make up under the eyes and pimples and the rest has no make up on but here comes on the foundation, you put on nice foundation all over you face, careful not to rub to much on the places where you put your concealer because u might rub it off the area needed to be covered, remember to blend the foundation properly around the eyes too, even the eyelids, and put a little on you neck to blend the color of the make up in perfectly to you skin, because sometimes you might get that makeup look like its obvious that you put on makeup. when you done with the concealer and foundation, always finish it with a dab of face powder using a brush. not the sponge that comes with it.

also remember to be careful with choosing the brand of concealer and foundation you have, some brands dont mix with each other and the makeup might blot and wont cover flaws.

if you have pimples that are red and you cant cover it with the foundation, try using concealer on it instead , after you put on the concealer and foundation, if you pimple is still red and visible then first what you do is, get a make up brush preferable the big one, get a nice colored face powder and use the brush to aplply powder to your face, dont sweep the brush to your face too hard but smoothly and careful under the eyes and pimples. if you see that flaws are still visible, remeber when i said you mix light colored foundation and dark colored? do that to the sopts use you finger and put on light conolored concealer on you pimple on the pimple only and then use the darker shade do this until u cover it up and blend in with the color of the rest of you face. remember DONT RUB, just DAB it on your pimples same thing with dark circles. then if its covered already, get a small brush, dap it on some powder and dap to you pimples/dark circles to finish

if your having a problem blending in you foundation or conceler to your face, try putting on a bit of moisturizer on your face 1st before putting on makeupm this will make blending the makeup easier

you dont really need an expensive brand for nice coverage, all you really need is a light colored concealer, dark colored, and a foundation thats good on you.

It really depends on your budget, i think mac has the greatest range of foundations. Then again, I think what you want to consider are the kinds of foundations that are available. There are a few kinds of foundation, liquid, powder, cream, sticks. Loreal true match is a liquid foundation with sheer to medium coverage if I'm not wrong? If you want heavier coverage try using cream foundations in form of sticks or cakes like maybelline. However if you have dry skin it's gonna be a problem as most cream and sticks foundations tends crack with dry skin types. If you happen to have dry skin, make sure u apply moistuizer before your make up to prevent cracks. Some make up bases has moistuizing effects with it as well.

If you have acne marks you want to cover, try to use make up base before you apply concealer and foundation, it will ever out your skin texture. My friend used to have heaps of acne marks but she when for microdermabration treatment and her face looks as though she's never had acne problems.

I have dark circle problems as well,using an eye premier (MAC) works quite well for me, however depending on your skin, if you have dry skin, it will crack. If you have fair skin the best thing is to use a lemony colour concealer, I bought a lil kit from BENEFIT recently, it's called ';the mini fake it kit'; It's got everything you need to prep your eyes for great eye make up. Dark circles gone. It really brightens the eyes. In this lil kit they have wat they call ';lemonaid'; which is really good for dark circles. Try it for yourself.

I love covergirl tru blend, it is really easy to match your skin, goes on smooth and quickly and doesnt leave makeup lines
trying using a liquid foundation and concealer. I can't use power foundation because #1 it makes me feel like I have piles of makeup on my face and two it doesn't really cover anything up. I like liquid becauses it blends in and looks more natural. I like Covergirl Trublend and I lik eMaybelline mouuse...

I DON';T like MAC because it makes me breakout and several other people I know.
If you're going to stick with drugstore brands then stay away from ones that use the words ';bare'; and ';natual'; as they will tend to be more sheer. I also have dark circles and acne marks and have used L'oreal products..... colorvive or something like that. It will advertise it's superior ';coverage'; on the label. I've tried dozens of foundations and L'oreal has always had the thickest.

Having said that, I'll share a secret with you that I didn't learn until I was in my 30s. It pays to spend money on beauty counter cosmetics like Clinique or Estee Lauder. They last longer and if you buy your makeup during bonus time you will actually save money vs. drugstore makeup.

As far as good make up tips go, I find that the best thing is to put on a layer, let it dry and then apply another layer. Blend a lot around the jawline so it doesn't look mask-like and consider microdermabrasion or a chemical peel when you get older and have a little more money.

But if you want a cheap kind i did like maybelline pure foundation or neurgena..without the salicylic acid
I've had the same problem over the years. When I was younger I had very bad acne and it left scars as a result. I also have the added bonus of very light skin that's hard to blend any foundation into.

I found a great foundation that I just love. It's called Mabelline Superstay Silky Foundation. It stays on for a very long time and looks natural on my skin, but hides the little uh-oh scars and the bags under my eyes! haha.

I also use their shine free/blemish control concealer when i do have a break out. It cleans it up fast and covers it great!

I don't remember how much I paid for the concealer but I bought the foundation at Wal Mart for about 10.00. It's lasted me forever and it's worth every cent!

Well the best way to save money is to buy your mascara, eyeliner, lipstick, lipgloss in a Drugstore. But anything that is powdered, like eyeshadow, foundation, blush...you should buy at a Department store like Sephora. Therefore you can try them on, and you cannot actually sample foundations and blushes on your skin in a Drugstore. The brands I reccomend are:

Also at pureluxe.com (also mineral makeup) you can get samples for $1. Great way to try lots of different colors for eyes %26amp; cheeks. Plus mineral makeup lasts a long time since you don't need to use much.
I swear by L'Oreal, really it is Lancome under cover. They have the best foundations.... For pressed powder however, believe it or not, good ole Cover Girl, nothing fancy. The very best eyebrow pencil is Wet N Wild blonde, everyone should use blonde by the way....

Cover Girl, Rimmel and L'Oreal are good brands and relatively inexpensive. You can find them at Target, Wal-Mart and any drugstore.
Clinique. It is the best and reasonably priced.
For under $15, Maybelline, Revlon, and CoverGirl work okay. For over $15, MAC, Clinique, and Avon are great, just a little more pricey and harder to find at a drugstore or Target.
If you are of a dark complexion Nacara products are great %26amp; fairly inexpensive. Copper to really light color Maybelline products will do the job, especially their 'age rewind' line of foundation. FYI it does not insinuate age, it's just that it gives a really smooth finish, %26amp; the price is just about right.(around $12-$14)

These are products the girls in my family use.

They work pretty well for a cheap price.
Because some women, psychologically need these brands to feel better. They don't want to feel ';cheap'; because of drugstore brands. Buying expensive makeup products are their ';depressing shopping sprees';.

You don't have to pay an arm and a leg to look marvelous.

You can match any of these high end cosmetics with a more affordable product and get just as good if not better quality. Lancome and Loreal are the same. Revlon/Almay and Ultima are the same. You can find matches for MAC, Smashbox, etc. in any discount store. And if you aren't sure of your colors, Cover Girl's website has virtual models so you can play with the colors to match your complexion, eye and hair color. It also doesn't help that customers go into stores and test makeup that isn't meant to be tested. Those damaged products go back to the manufacturer, but if you think about it, if they are losing money, and they are going to raise the prices. Not only will it cost more, it is UNSANITARY! People don't realize when they test and put it back they run the risk of infections. If you want to know about a product, ASK, don't test.
Its not the makeup that's pricey its the brand your really paying for...plus the more they say its better, healthier or has sun protection will raise that price up too..... I have used Mac , Smashbox, Cargo, I found ID Minerals is worth it my skin feels good .I have went through very long days /falling asleep with it on without waking up with any breakouts.....THANK GOODNESS

EVERYDAY MINERALS... they offer free samples (well, you only pay shipping) and the price of a full size foundation is only $12 (and it lasts for a long time). Other brands that offer free samples are Aromaleigh and Signature Minerals (but I have never tried these brands). Oh, and I'd avoid Bare Minerals...it's overpriced and even though it doesn't clog pores, it has Bismuth Oxychloride that irritates the skin causing bumps and itchiness for some people. Try Neutrogena - they have a new mineral sheer line, which works really well for me. It's also cheap.
Almay, Physican's Formula, Mary Kay, Arbonne, Avon, Mark, Neutrogena, etc, but stay away from Maybelline, Revlon, Cover Girl, etc, there not good for your skin, but the others are, and are tested and are safer. And they work great as well!
Nuetrogena is the best cheapest stuff. Besides that, all of the mineral stuff is good. I think a few of the store-bought brands have a few mineral based prodcuts now. Just check through the isle, maybe it's maybeline. Mineral stuff is extremely good for ur skin.

Ulta is cheaper than most... Sephora is another one but the prices will be slightly higher than Ulta as the brands differ. I would look at it as .. the cost or quality. You want to balance both when it comes to makeup..because bad makeup will have a horrible effect long term on your skin. Good luck!

I've compared Lash Blast to at least 10 different mascaras, and it works better. Of course I also have the Dior, and that's even better, but might be a little more expensive.

M.A.C is by far, is the the best makeup brand, in my standards. But most might be expensive to most.

Maybellene has very lightly pigmented eyeshadow...so I don't reccomend much from there.

I like L'Oreal Lash Out mascara. It doesn't clump and it holds curl, if you use a lash curler. (This is a common complaint among Asians.) I also like L'Oreal's liquid eyeliner with the brush tip. MAC Lipglass has a HUGE selection of shades, even though it is a little pricier than the drug store brands.

Definitely etude house from korea. It is one of the most popular brand in korea. Check out their mascaras and BB creams. Esp for chinese like us. ;) check out the links below..hope it helps..

expensive make-up is the best make-up. i usually buy my make up from avon. if you say people compliment you i recommend not wearing any. but if you want to anyway just make sure that the make-up you wear is light and natural.

Mineral makeup is best, it's very natural and has awesome wear-ability, but please not bare minerals! There products contain bismuth which is NOT a healthy mineral! It resembles arsenic!!! I used this makeup not knowing this fact and it caused me a very bad allergic reaction!

Bismuth (IPA: [藞b瑟zm蓹胃]) is a chemical element that has the symbol Bi and atomic number 83. This heavy, brittle, white crystalline trivalent poor metal has a pink tinge and chemically resembles arsenic and antimony.

Because my eyes constantly water, I have to wear waterproof mascara and it can be tough to remove. I found an easy, cheap solution: Johnson and Johnson Baby Wash. It removes the make-up, no oily residue (like with baby oil) and cost like $3 for a huge bottle which will last about a year. It's the Baby Wash, no shampoo that I've tried and had work. MAC is garbage, and I can honestly say it after working for Chanel and Dior and having experience in almost every luxury line in a high end department store. Many young girls who use it look like clowns or hookers because it is highly pigmented and needs to be blended to perfection- which is not easily done without proper tools or technique. Great eyeshadows (and other makeup) can be found in your local drugstore! I suggest Revlon mineral eyeshadows; the colors are deep yet beautiful and easy to blend. They come 3 colors in one pack. I included the link at the bottom.

The old adage ';you get what you pay for'; really only applies to foundation these days, and even that is changing. I suggest you invest in a eye shadow brush set, and NO you don't need to buy MAC brushes- you can find one that will suit you just find at the drugstore. Learn how to use your makeup properly, and you can look beautiful on any budget.

MAC's jars of pigment are like $20, but a small jar of unpressed pigment will last you sooooo much longer than one of those $14 individual shadows. Urban Decay is sexy, but it isn't super cheap. They do run sales, though, so you might check them out.

Also...Sephora? Really? Sephora does not carry anything inexpensive. Come on, they carry MAC and Too Faced, etc.

Hit the drugstore if you want inexpensive. Maybelline, Rimmel, Revlon, Sally Hansen, CoverGirl, Physician's Formula, etc. Cheaper still are Wet n Wild, BonneBell, NYC, and Jane. There's also E.L.F-which I can't find in my drugstores, but it is for sure online. Check ULTA-they have a crazy assortment from inexpensive to crazy pricy.

If you have a problem with animal testing, be aware that CoverGirl does perform animal testing.

If you're into the mineral thing, there's also Everyday Minerals, that for the price of shipping will send you like five samples of their products.
I like physicians formula mineral wear foundations.

NYX, and coastal scents (online company), put out some pretty good and highly pigmented shadows.

Instead of MACs fluidline I like Studio Tools gel liner.

I think that brushes are important tool in getting good looking makeup. Again, MAC is TOOOO spendy in my opinion. Sigma brushes put out good alternatives to these brushes. EcoTools put out some pretty nice drugstore brushes, though.
Yeah, MAC is definitely a little overpriced, even though it's pretty good.

If you're looking for eyeshadows, try NYX. They have a LOT of different colors, and they're really pigmented, a lot like MAC. Usually, their eyeshadow singles sell for around $3, and their trios sell for around $5, which is a LOT cheaper in comparison to MAC's $14.50 shadows. They also have those thick eyeshadow pencils. I'm not sure how much they sell them for, but if you melt them into a little pot, they'll be a lot like paintpots, but they'll be a lot cheaper.

If you want to buy MAC's liquid foundation, try Revlon's ColorStay foundation, found in drugstores. They're only $13 (which is more than half the price of MAC foundation), and it is just like MAC's, except Revlon's packaging doesn't come with a pump. It'll be harder to get out, but it's worth saving a few bucks.

If you are looking for MAC's MSFs (Mineralized Skin Finishes), NYC sells some similar products for around $5, opposed to ones by MAC for $21 or so. I don't recall the name of the product, but when you see it, you will know it. It comes in a plastic package, and it's a marblized dome, too.

As for the blot powder, Rimmel London's Stay Matte powder (for $5) works just as well as MAC's $21 blot/pressed powder. L'Oreal and Maybelline also sell great pressed powders.

MAC lipglosses are great. I have yet to find a brand with a consistency like theirs, but I'm sure if you look around in your drugstore, you'll find a line of lipgloss or lipstick that you like, and it'll probably be a lot cheaper than MAC's.

As for their pigments, check online. There are many small sites that sell pigments and samples for a more reasonable price. After all, you're never going to finish a MAC pigment anyway. There's so much in each jar, and it'll all go to waste.

Also, try L'Oreal's HIP Creme Liner ($8-$9). It's very close to MAC's Fluid Line, and it's a lot cheaper. (:

Essence of Beauty brushes (sold at CVS) work great, and they're a LOT cheaper than MAC brushes. I also heard a lot of good things about Sigma Brushes (look online for those)

i use MAC and yes it is a lot of money, but you get what you pay for. the other option that is probably best is, cover girl. when i don't use MAC that's what i use, it's cheap and works really well, and they have something for literally any skin tone you can think of.
try NYX cosmetics. They have a lot of different products and colors, and way cheeper then MAC. plus this website buys wholesale NYX and re sells it for cheaper, and i know for a fact it's all real.

Lancome is up there, but no brand is really the ';most expensive';, it varies by products. I am only looking at foundation prices to keep it even, and MAC is no where near the most expensive. Some MAC foundations are even less than Bare Minerals. Bobbi Brown luminous moisturizing foundation is $45. Prescriptives is $39.50 for their foundation.

If you really want to see the expensive stuff, look at eyecreams. Some are over $100 for less than an ounce. Aesop Parsley Seed eye cream is $295.

Mineral makeup is great for skin that's oily w/acne. Of course it won't cover the bumps themselves, but it will help to alleviate the redness associated with acne. Everyday Minerals, Aromaleigh, and Signature Minerals are all great brands that offer free samples, so that you can try them out. Everyday Minerals (in the intensive formula) is my fave because it gets great coverage w/o looking like I have a mask on...also it doesn't break me out which is great. And Everyday Minerals it has great prices (only $12 for foundation that lasts 3+ months!!). Oh, and stay away from Bare Minerals...it has Bismuth Oxychloride which is known to cause bumps and itchiness on the skin (it's no fun...trust me). i went to clinique at nordstroms and got a makeover for free and they told me what kind of skin i had and i was oily. they showed me a great skin care/wash set and i got it. they also matched my skin color with a foundation number. i also got that. it's not terribly expensive, but kinda. it also lasts a while and it's sooo much better than that cheap stuff.

Ok, honesly NYC loose translucent is my favorite loose powder and it's only like 3 dollars. Powder gets cakey if your skin is oily and you put powder on top repeatedly. I've heard Physicians is good and makeupalley.com has tons of reviews. But give NYC a try too it's so cheap and if you don't like it you can toss it or give it to a friend and it was only 3 dollars, right? Good luck!

If she just happens to get free makeup then by all means use the free stuff! I love makeup and regularly test out all sorts of brands, both expensive or cheap. I have to say that I have been getting blown away by the quality of cheap cosmetics now. Back in my younger days, they were bloody terrible. Everything was chalky and cakey and the lipsticks smelled funny but now its amazing how much brands have changed.

No, it's really not that great. I used to use the 'studio tech' foundation, and it was nice. It smelled really bad though, and every batch I bought smelled like that, so I wouldn't recommend it. It kinda made my skin itchy.
It stays on all day, has a better quality than maybelline or revlon, anddd is used by most make up artists BECAUSE of it's quality.

mac is really good, but try loriel, HIP. (high intensity pigment) im an esthetician at a medical spa and thats all i wear. i get compliments on it all the time and theyre just as bright and vibrant as mack and it stays on all day

You can get inexpensive makeup at several places. For one, Dollar stores carry brands such as Covergirl and Maybelline, but hopefully you're not too picky with colors when you buy from there. If your looking to buy eyeshadow, I can tell you from experience that you don't need to buy the upper ends for this. Try WnW or NYX. They have great eye shadows for cheap price! I don't know about foundation because I don't wear it. As for lip stick/gloss, the same rule applies. If you know which brand to buy, then they work just as well as the higher ends.

In america, WET AND WILD isn't too good.

But Maybelline is excellent, $7 for mascara, which lasts for 6 months. Try unstoppable lashes, that's really good.

If you haven't go too much money, then do this:

Buy 1 eye gloss in a peachy shade

Buy 1 regular eyeliner

Buy 1 coloured eyeliner

Buy 2 different coloured lip stick's/gloss

Buy 1 foundation if you need it.

Put these in a list of priority. Then buy 1 a week/month. You might not actually need mascara/eyeliner so that will save money.

Basically, if you combine these things you have all different looks.

Going to a class: Eyegloss and Lipgloss

Going out on a date: Coloured Eyeliner LipGloss

Going out with friends: The other eyeliner and Lipgloss

As far as makeup goes, Mac is the top of the line. It's wonderful makeup that many top people use for fashion shows and movies. That being said. It is expensive if you use the whole line. MAC is just as expensive as the other brands in department stores. If you're used to drugstore brands, then yes, MAC will be quite expensive!

What kind of MAC makeup are you interested in? They are known for their wide variety of eyeshadow colors. If you want a cheaper alternative, Milani (available at www.walgreens.com and in some Walgreens and CVS locations) and Prestige (so far I've only found them at Walgreens) are the only two drugstore brands I've found that make eyeshadows of a high enough quality to compare with MAC. If you're open to mineral makeup, Aromaleigh (www.aromaleigh.com) has a huge selection of eyeshadow colors, all of an excellent quality, for about half the price of MAC's eyeshadows!

Now most cheaper stuff isn't going to be as good as a brand like MAC. However, there are definitely a few quality cheaper products out there -- you just have to know where to look! And if I can find a cheaper alternative that's just as good, I'll definitely buy it ;)

I'm not sure about other MAC makeup ... some girls like their foundations, but a lot of girls complain their Studio Fix foundation breaks them out. (Or so I've heard on makeup message boards!) Not sure about their other products...

If you want good MAC dupes hit up a local craft store and check out the paint brushes. I'm dead serious haha.

You can find both natural goat hair brushes as well as synthetic brushes.

I suffer from frequent bacterial eye infections. By now, I know the drill pretty well.... I go to the pharmacy for two types of eye drops, Deltamid and Sophixin, and start a 10 day treatment (D-every 4 hours and S-every 12 hours). I change my sheets and clean most of the surfaces in my house with a disinfectant. All this is annoying, but what really hurts is tossing out my makeup. I like expensive makeup, and with this last infection, I threw out about $150 in Mac makeup. That was painful, since I had only bought the stuff a few months ago! So, my question is...is there a way I can disinfect mascaras and powder makeup so that I can use it after an infection? Maybe a way of heating up to kill the bacteria? Or is there a certain amount of time I can just store it to wait out the life span of the bacteria? How long can the types of bacterias that cause pink eye live outside the body?Pink eye and makeup blues... is there a way to salvage my expensive eye makeup without reinfection?
you can't disinfect it, but you can use a different disposable brush each time you use your makeup. mascara this will be near impossible with, but for your eyeshadows and powders, just get disposables from walgreens or CVS. You can try UV light, but I wouldn't bank on the results. About 30 minutes under a UV light kills most bacteria.
I don't think you can disinfect the make-up but you could invest in disposible brushes and that may prevent re-infection.

I got mine from Ulta. They work great and I really see a difference in my makeup as opposed to using the brushes that come with the makeup compacts. You can probably also find them at a Walgreen's or Target.
Sally's Beauty Supply has affordable prices on lots of makeup brushes and cosmetics. Great variety, too! And the quality is great as well! I bought a 10 dollar jumbo pack! It's great!

Sephora has a WIDEEE variety of brands, so it really depends on what you buy. They carry drugstore brands as well as private brands sold only at makeup chain stores like Sephora.

Some of the top-end brands like Urban Decay and MAC are definitely pricier than drugstore brands, but they work wonders.

Their quality really does match the price usually, so as long as you're willing to spend money on good makeup, it all works out in the end.

Sephora's own line of makeup isn't too expensive, if that's also what you're wondering.

I use M.A.C products, and it is worth the price.

Eye shadows individually are about 13 dollars.

foundation can range from 20 to 30.

Lip gloss is about 14.

blah blah blah.

Anyway, it does all add up to a high cost at the end.

Last week, I bought 3 eye shadows, and got them in a pallet. I also bought lip gloss, although i think they call it lip glass there, i forgot. That all added up to around 60 dollars, so it is pricey.
Mac has awesome eye-colors.

They're pretty expensive.

I would NOT waste your time buying the foundations, however. It is made for the camera's. I.e., bright flashes and hard lights.

Its good coverage however it cakes up VERY easily. It lasts all day and clogs your pores in the process. Its terrible, terrible stuff for your skin. Wearing it every day would probably be worse for your skin than sleeping in a tanning bed every night.

If you don't mind pancake make up or easily caked make up then invest in their foundations.

They're other products however are very very nice. They're colors are more than worth the price.
not expensive in regards to other makeup brands that are on the ';higher end';. I'm honestly not a very big fan of theirs though. Yes, they do have some nice colours in eyeshadows, but I do find that some of my drug store makeup which costs less than half the price of one eyeshadow single at MAC applies easier and has the same quality of coverage and colour, if a bit better. I find that MAC is more difficult to apply evenly, although the colour is bright which I like. Would say that MAC is a brand that you get as a christmas present, and not a brand that you spend your own money on.

I prefer going to Sephora. I only buy a few of the brands there, which would be Makeup For Ever (basically like the good version of MAC. Their makeup won't cake, the eyeshadows I think so have more than the MAC ones, there are more variations in colour and the coverage is so nice and blends/applies with ease), Sisheido, Urban Decay and Smashbox. A lot of the brands at sephora can be found at places like The Bay or I guess American department stores, and even at drug stores (I can buy smashbox makeup at shoppers drug mart).

So if you are looking for a makeup store that has a lot of variety and that sells some nicer makeup for aroudnt he same amount, try Sephora.

Also, the girls at sephora actually know how to wear their makeup, unlike all the girls I've seen at every MAC store I've ever been to (ie at MAC they wear too much black eyeliner, cake mascara on, and cake foudnation on. Not really wanting to buy makeup from people who do not even wear the makeup well lol)
Its extremely well known, and slightly expensive, but it all depends on what you compare it to. Compared to drugstore makeup, its pricy. But next to other department store brands, its on the lesser end. Still, its my favorite; it wears really well, the colors are great, and i have never bought something that i didn't think was worth the extra money.
while it is pricier than the make-up you can buy in the cosmetics department at, say, Target, it's a better in the end because at MAC, you can have a MAC professional help you determine your shade of make-up and which products are best for your skin type so you aren't messing around with make-up that's wrong for your face. having the help of a professional is key to having natural-looking make-up.
Its not that bad of pricing. It lasts all day long. I think it is worth it if you are going to buy something for the price it should be worth it. And MAC is worth it. They have so many options and the people that are there to help you go through school so they can give you the right information if you have questions. They are very helpful and my experiences have been very good. As far as well known. A lot of people use it. Beauty schools, movies, models. It is very well known for its quality.
MAC is a good quality brand, you can just stop in one of their stores and try it out. I like their eye shadows a lot, but wasn't impressed with the foundation or mascara. I guess it just depends on what you like! The store lets you try most anything before you purchase it, so you won't feel bad about shelling out the $$$.

We stand behind our product and if your aren't happy keep your receipt and bring it back. The money doesn't matter when you have Quality products. Just buy what you can and have family buy little pieces for Birthdays and Holidays. Also you can get great pieces during Holidays in gift sets so you can try products that cost more in full sizes. I do use drugstore cleansers but as for makeup I love MAC

I use Rimmel there eyeliners and lip liners are really pretty. They even have a lip liner for lip gloss alone. They are also not that expensive i say form 1.97 -10.00 dollars. Wet n Wild is also another good brand there products start at 1.00 and go up to like 5.00 and their products are good not cheap looking because of the price i have this one blue eyeliner from them and i love it. n.y.c. is also kind of cheap and they have really good make-up.

Any of those stores they listed are great. Look for brands Almay or Rimmel. Rimmel has really good eyeliner and Almay has really good shadows, and best of all, they're both cheap.

If you want to start using makeup I suggest you start off with drugstore brands. Because MAC makeup doesn't work for everyone. MAC makeup is somewhat expensive. It gets even more expensive the more you buy. So the best thing to do is buy drugstore makeup and play around with it. Is mac makeup expensive??
yeah mac is a lot more than drugstore,

what i do is mix both drugstore makeup with nicer makeup so you have a little of both. buy things like trendy or bright colors or thins you really arent sure about at drugstores. and buy the makeup that you know you can wear all the time and mabye things like foundation at the mac store

It's about twice as much as it would cost to buy makeup at the drugstore. Instead of getting a lipstick for $6 or $7, you pay $14. You should check their website to see the prices for various types of makeup.

ive a few options.. claire's have a new brush set it includes everything you listed %26amp; a eyebrow/lash comb. its in a clear zip up pouch the handles are neon pink personally i thought they'd be poor quality but there really soft with no shedding so far, all for five pounds. :]

yeah all the eyeshadows,eye liners, blush, lipsticks, lipliner, lipgloss, and mascara are the same but the foundation, powders and concealors aren't. If you really want a drugstore foundation use neutrogena, almay, or maybeline matte mousse. Mark, Flirt Cosmetics, and Avon are cheap good cosmetic brands they are better than drugstore cosmetics.

Most of it is, yes. THEY don't want you to know that, though!
In a way, yes. There are probably a lot of more expensive brands (such as Clinique, Mac, Lancome, etc) that perform better than mass market brands found in stores. However, brands like L'Or茅al Paris, Almay, Max Factor, Revlon, and Neutrogena are fantastic. You just have to figure out each brand's strengths and weaknesses. For example, I think Almay's foundations are their weakness. They are heavy, masky, and don't have a good range in color choices. However, their lip products and mascaras are awesome.

You also should figure out which brands work for you the best. In the end, you may find that the expensive brands can't compete with the mass markets. However, if you take the time to figure out which one works best for you, you may find a mass market brand name product that works just as well (or better) than the expensive brand's.
all makeup is made from alot of the same ingrediants. You can look it up and you will see that they all are made formt he same things. i know some =brands add some extra of this or that and only that will make any difference. So just buy what you like and can afford. Just bc you spend $10 on your makeup doesnt mean you get a lesser quality than the expensive stuff

Mary Kay is a great place to get make up. They are cheap and have good deals, and their cover up lasts all day and looks really great and has good coverage.

They have a wide range of colors for eye shadow too.

Mineral Girlz has foundation for $8 and I love it. I don't know what you mean by last a long time but I have had the jar I bought for almost a month and there is still a lot. I rarely need touch ups as well.

I personally think that it doesn't matter how much you spend on makeup- it is how you apply it that will make it last. i use mayballine too. I use the stick eyeshadow and then put powder over it to help it ';set';, same with my cover up- after I put the cover up on- i dust my face with powder so that it sets.

Clinique and MAC are great products but more expensive than what you'll find in your local drug store. Don't waste your money on the cheap stuff. Unfortunately, make up is something you don't want to be cheap with. Your skin will pay for it later! TRUST ME! Spend the few extra bucks for some good make up. And throw away any make up that you might have that is expired. You shouldn't keep make up more than 6 months. Most department stores sell Clinique and MAC and I'm sure you can buy them online.
I have been using Merle Norman since I was 16. i have tried other brands and find it a waste of money. It is way more cost effective to stick with one brand, instead of changing all the time and end up throwing away whats left over. LOVE LOVE MERLE NORMAN!!!

It's not really about expensive or cheap, it's about quality and results. I find that I pay very little for certain products that work great, as well as things I have to save my pennies for. I'm working as a makeup artist and I do tend to lean towards makeup that might not be in everyone's price range, but I feel that it's worth it. Brands like L'Oreal, Mayballine, and Revlon will NEVER touch my face. I pay for quality, not for cheap products that run out so fast and require so much that I'm paying more than if I had bought a quality makeup in the first place. I use Pur Minerals on my face, a mixutre of Urban Decay, Stila, and Chanel for eyeshadow, a Make-Up 4Ever setting powder, mainly Fusion lip products (along with some Stila), Dior mascara, and Ahava makeup remover. I use so much less that it's really worth the money. The best way to find out what is the best for you and why, is to educate yourself. Grab a beauty book from Barnes and Noble that tells about how your makeup will affect your skin and wallet. I personally use natural products because I have sensative skin. That's why I like Urban Decay and Stila. Try using clinique. They're not too expensive, but they are really well made. Don't buy your makeup from walmart. The powdery stuff comes off too easily. Oh, this is a common debate.

Expensive makeup is better for a few reasons

1. Better quality products in general

2. (Usually) More helpful service when buying

3. A larger variety of shades and textures

I know the extra cost is a pain, but beauty is worth it, right? ;)

Everyone is going to answer with '; expensive ';- and i must admit i usually stick to high end brands, but i do have to say that many ';cheap'; make-up brands work just as well if not better than the expensive brands- company's like NYX-HIP-Rimmel- and Loreal have some products that i think are great for the price. such as Rimmels eye kohl- its my favorite kohl eyeliner. Or NYX eye shadows- they compare to MAC. It all depends on what you get- i suggest getting a higher quality foundation and face powder- and maybe a lower end eyeliner and lip gloss.

I think that less expensive make up works just as well. I use Maybelline Mineral Power; and it works great. On my eyes I use Almay (the eye shadow combination for each eye color), lip gloss, what ever is on sale lol. Hope you find some good advice! :)
well it really depends. like i use mac foundation [studio fix liquid foundation..AMAZING], but for my eyes, expensive concealer is too thin. i use maybelline dream matte mousse a shade lighter than my foundation. it's very thick and is THE ONLY THING that covers the dark circles under my eyes.

mascara, though. CHEAP IS BETTER. what, does diorshow have flecks of gold in it that plump your lashes or something?

it is about what works for you. i use a mix of ';cheap'; and ';expensive'; make-up. both are great. you really should just get out and try anything that looks nice to you.

i need to find out what works for me cosmetics wise but i am a student and can't afford to go somewhere where the primary interest is just to get me to spend as much money as possible. If your a student, does your college/uni not a some kind of make up course. If so go to them. I don't mean, the beginners. I mean the 1's with a bit more experience. When I was at college, I had my hair done, manicure, pedicure and facials to name but a few done, for nothing for a few yrs. As for going to a make up, they will only, sell their own brand and don't normal tell you what's afford.Would like makeup consultation that won't try to sell me the most expensive products but wot genuinely suits?

well something that would hel is go to macy's and they can help u or if u just want some advice then take it from me. if you want to look good but not to sleezy try using browns and blue as eye shadow and try to use like even a purple for eyeliner if you go to big lots then you can get eyeliner that has a dark purple and a violet that makes you eyes POP. but you can get cheap but good make up at big lots
Clinque. They will do it and not be high pressure to sell you, at least they haven't been with me or my daughter. Their products are good and as expensive as some. Mac puts a little more pressure on. Clinque in sold in Macy's and Nordstrom's and not sure where else. Foundation is about $20. You can always purchase one item at a time.
I agree that if you are student you should enquire at the Health %26amp; Beauty faculty of your [local] college. The local college to us offers all sorts of treatments and advice at very reasonable rates and they aren't dictated to by specific beauty companies.
Ranges like MAC, Bobbi Brown and Laura Mercier usually have trained make-up artists working on the counter so they're probably your best shot. Sometimes they charge but it's redeemable against a purchase and their foundations and powders are worth spending money on.

There are equivalents by the same manufactures as expensive products in Drug Stores (as with shampoos and probably more).

Find a Drug Store that has 100% satisfaction guaranteed, ask questions before you buy, and if it's not up to those standards do return/exchange it.

The main difference is often a nicer smell, and the containers look nicer on your bathroom counter. All makeup has come a long way: lots of competition.

Not really. Many of the expensive lines have lower priced lines in the drug store and there's no difference between the formula's. Lines such as maybelline, Loreal, Revlon, and Cover Girl have excellent products that perform as good as or better then their department store cousins. Speciality lines such as Urban Decay, Sephora and especially MAC are far better than expensive department stores brands like Chanel, Dior, Elizabeth Arden and those other ones that sell plain glycerin and wax moisturizers for up to a hundred dollars.

All cosmetics are made from the same basic group of chemicals, plants, waxes, silicones, etc. What you pay for in department store brands is packaging, promotion, the fancy displays, and the brand name. Don't be led astray by fancy packages and high price points, the drug store stuff is fine. And it's a far more reasonable price.

It depends on the makeup and your personal preference. I grew up using drug store products, but then I started using high end makeup like blush, and eyeshadow and I could never go back to the drug store products. They are fine too, don't get me wrong, but in my opinion, high end stuff like MAC, Benefit, Stila, and Nars, are all worth the money and I have never regretted paying extra.

the expensive makeup comes with free goodies, bags, and samples. so it's not really more expensive, especially if u buy during a giveaway event.

idk if it's worth it or not, but i use the shiseido sunscreen moisturizer and it makes my skin flawless (usually it's dry) over the clinique moisturizer.

i've always used expensive mascara samples that come with the product when i buy my skincare. mascara only lasts 3 months, so the samples are plenty.

estee lauder liner is really soft and doesn't tug.

clinique and shiseido have flawless skincare.

my favourite mascara is lancome volumizing.

the only drugstores stuff i've used is bonne bell, it's not as good.
there is definatley a difference between cheaper foundation [covergirl, maybelline, etc] and expensive foundations [mac, etc]. expensive ones last longer and look better

but cheaper ones are great too

however its totally your choice, if you would rather spend less on makeup stick with the cheaper ones

but if you dont mind the expense you should definitley try the mac products and other expensive makeups
No way!!!! I use lots of regular products from the average stores and they work just as good or better. OR I also use avon and mark makeup. You also get your money's worth. You can buy a tube of foundation for 100 bucks with that kind of money buy yourself a good pair of jeans instead.
it's a huge difference I use Mac and notice it's stays on longer the foundation dosnt turn your face that weird tint and come off when you put your face on something, it last longer, and I think it just looks better.
Omg, there is such a big difference, expensive make-up at sephora lasts longer, is higher quality, and looks better. I like to spend more money on good make-up then less money on bad ones =)

MAC is very expensive compared to drugstore brands like Cover Girl, that basically do the same thing. When I was a little older than you, like about 18 or so, I had this friend who swore by MAC products, and she took me to the MAC store one day. I bought a lipstick and lipliner, which set me back $26, compared to maybe $7 for both items if I had bought the Cover Girl or Maybelline versions. And the lipstick didn't look any different than my cheapie stuff, and it actually tasted worse!!! Save your money, sweetie- MAC is just an over-hyped designer product that dumb yuppies buy because they are elitists who feel like it must be better if it costs more.

Actually, I would tell you to go with Neutrogena cosmetics if you want to spend a little more money. Their products are all specially designed to make your skin healthy and most of them also include sunscreen to keep you from aging.
like $30 for a foundation I love mac but you can get cheaper brands easily that work just as well I tend to stick to mac though its my fav but if you dont have the money yet dont use it get something less like max factor they have neat colors
Don't bother...honestly. I bought a tiny-@ss pot of gold eyeshadow from MAC, literally, it's so small, and it cost 拢10 (I'm not sure what that is in dollars). Their make-up is nice but it's so overpriced.

You will be able to find lots of nice make up from cheaper brands like Loreal Paris or Boujoir.....they have nice make-up and it's much cheaper than MAC
MAC makeup is expensive because it is only found in department stores. Whatever you buy at a department store like make-up, it is going to be a pretty expensive price. I think around $18 for one product.
Just because of the brand name and nothing else. I have some Mac make up but there is nothing more special about it than the other stuff I use. I personally think there are better brands out there.
Mac is excellent make-up which lasts long and wears fantastic. It's the best make-up I've ever tried.

Fortunately, Mac manufactures a line of make-up at a much more affordable price, including great mineral make-up that is much less expensive then Bare Minerals.

In order for me to tell you where to get MAC i need to know what state you live in lol... or you can look for a site nearest you in the website. But keep in mind that MAC is very high quality. Well', I don't think you should get a job yet. Mac makeup is expensive. Eyeshadow can cost you $30-$40. Foundation is around $40 too. Brushes are really expensive too!There really isn't a need to use such expensive make up especially if you have to work so hard to get some makeout You can get very similar products for a much cheaper price. Maybe covergirl or loreal. I would personally not spend so much makeup at such a young age.
i only use MAC foundation. Its the best around. but its about $40 for a compact. High in quality. MAC is usually in the mall or in department stores. The price is because of quality and selection.
It has a very high pigment in it, which causes it to be more expensive- but in comparison to other brands it really isn't. The only thing its more expensive then is drugstore brands. I saw the other day the high pigment make up from loreol - or whatever for 11.99 and mac is 14.00 for the same thing, spend the money its worth it. I spent about 4,000 in mac makeup last year, and i don't regret it!

i've been using bare minerals for 5 years. it looks completely natural, like beautiful, even skintone. it costs more, but you use less. i got my foundation (25.00) a year ago, it is still not empty. i live in texas, meaning high heat %26amp; humidity, and work 12 hour shifts some days; the make-up does not need touching up, it doesn't melt off your face, i love it.Does bare minerals %26amp; other expensive cover up makeup look as good UP CLOSE?
Absolutly!! I just got it and love it! Its so natural and not caky and covers my acne perfect! No touch ups either! U can even rub ur hand against ur face and it wont come off! I love it!
I've switched to Bare Minerals within the last couple of months and I have to say that I'm VERY impressed. I don't look like I'm wearing a mask anymore. The technique is a bit tricky to master, but once you figure it out your makeup is smooth, translucent and utterly undetectable. My complexion is not terrible, but it's not perfect either....I've visible acne scars, hormonal-caused dark spots and dark circles around my eyes. Before I began wearing Bare Minerals I had to cake on the makeup to cover up all my imperfections. BUT NOW, I have much prettier skin and didn't have to give up any of my coverage. They preach that Less-is-More and in this case they're right! If you use too much at a time, it WILL look powdery, cakey and dry. Used correctly, and I would confidently do an UP CLOSE test.

As far as touch-ups go, I usually go about 5-6 hours before I need to blot and touch up. Even then, the shine is not bad (and I have oily skin).

I would recommend that you go to Sephora and sample the products. Good Luck!!!
I had never tried mineral make-up before till last week (I went to visit my mom and she had some from Sally Hansen). I have a lot of old acne scars and oily skin...didn't think a powder based makeup could provide enough coverage, and thought my oily skin would make it cakey. I was VERY impressed....I don't think my skin has ever looked that good, that...flawless. It provided perfect coverage without looking overdone, and didn't get cakey like I thought it would. Actually, my skin was much less oily than when I use my usual liquid foundation. I say try it!
Yes, I have been using the makeup for over 3 years now. My skin looks flawless even up close. I can put it on in the morning and it goes all day...sometimes if I'm going out at night I'll touch up my eyes and add more blush but I never have to touch up the foundation.

I just started using bare minerals and my skin looks flawless even up-close. That is quite a feat because I have not very good skin and it does a great job of covering up without looking ca-key. I use to have to re-powder and re-conceal my face multiple times a day - but I can go ALL day with bare minerals. Hope it helps!
I don't use Bare Minerals because it cost too much and it made me look kind of orange but I use Mineral Girlz and I love it. I look like I am not wearing any makeup but I still have coverage. I leave it on all day and don't need to touch up at all during the day. Sometimes at night I do re apply it but that is only if i am going out and I add a few extra touches.

Mac is expensive, but very good quality. Their lipstick is 14$. I love Hue. It is a soft pale pink. It really depends on what you are looking for. They have a lot of different finishes... Here is a list..

It's really not that expensive. For lipsticks, $11-13. Make it last longer and purchase the lip primer along with it ( line lips/prime/wait a moment until dry/apply lipstick) the color will remain much longer than not.

Eye shadows, (be sure and get the eyeshadow primer ';paint'; or ';shade sticks'; too .. if you purchase the round individuals- more expensive. Instead, purchase a palette for 5 dollars, and get the shadows for the palette at like 9 a piece. it's all worth it, because it's all true pigmented color.

NEARLY all MAC artists are ready, willing and able to assist you mix and match and get you on the right track to the new adventurous you..

I've spent well over $3000 on my cosmetics collection, but as I get older, the more I am realizing that it's a waste of money, especially considering that I use few of the products and I have other financial obligations these days.

In my experience as a freelance makeup artist, often times there isn't a whole lot of difference between high end and low end makeup - 90% of it is technique and practice. The most expensive makeup in the world isn't going to make you look like a radiant goddess if you don't know how to apply it properly. So while I like my MAC eye shadows, I'm not too snobby to use Cover Girl mascara either - it just WORKS, and it works well. There's no point in spending more for just a label.

My guess is that your preference for high end items comes across as conspicuous spending, which is rough especially in light of the recent economy. Not everyone has the money to blow on luxuries such as high end makeup. It's kind of like the girl who goes to school with a $400 Coach bag to hold her books, when the $30 Jansport would do the same job just as well -- it's bound to attract some jealousy.
maybe they think expensive make up makes them a better person and prettier. NOT!!!!!!!! heaven forbid you bring up avon or make up you can by at a regular store. you know the old saying its whats on the inside that counts. there is no reason to not look nice but no need to buy 1.00 make up or 100.00 lipstick, its what you like and what works for you. i have about 1000,00 worth of make up, because i like it, and its all different brands.

However, I am what they call ';a natural beauty'; I have perfect skin, teeth and am well proportioned, some people call me a doll lol.

Try Loreal true match foundation along with the powder..works great for me. The powder absorbes the oil so it keeps your skin looking fresh. And I've been using it for a whole year now, my skins in the best condition ever, well I have also been cleansing my skin once a week too.

I've used every single type of makeup that there is at WalMart/Walgreens to BonTon, Macys and even M.A.C and Chanel..

I look for how long a foundation lasts, Covergirl (except the kind with the primer) sucked! the only reason I didn't like CG was because the lightest color they had made me orange.

Revlon is the best makeup to use! it is relatively cheap, I use the Color Stay Combination/Oily skin (do not get the Normal/Dry, I found it to be really bad in coverage after about 2 hours of putting it on even with powder it looked like I was wearing nothing HORRIBLE EXPERIENE! lol) but Revlon is by far the best makeup I have ever used!

(and no I'm not being paid by them to say it lol)

I don't own any concealer or tinted moisturizer, and my mascara has expired so I'm going without. My lashes are dark brown anyway, though. I'm mostly looking for the mascaras that give a kind of feathery look, I don't really like the ones that clump lashes together.

I think she sold you the wrong brush on accident. The Sephora brushes all look alike and there are a lot of them, and sometimes they end up in the wrong holder at the store. I would take it back and ask for the correct brush, and make sure you unwrap it before you buy it. not sure what you mean by ';up'; but you can wet it and reshape the brush like you would when you clean it. it should help

I use Cover Girl %26amp; Mac. They both fade %26amp; rub off the same.
I am an Avon sales rep and I have many customers changing from Clinique to our Anew line. They say they have researched it and the Anew line is right up there with the best brands. We carry many lines and some are cheaper like the Ageless Solutions Brand which I use myself. You just need to try something new and see if it works for you. I personally love it.
this is actually a tricky question...becuase...when it comes to makeup...sticking to one line is almost impossible.

I've worked as a makeup artist for 20 years and when I do consultation...never have I stock to one line...example:

I love Prestige liners...love Bare Minerals for overall foundation...lipsticks---Revlon good for the price, Channel though expensive is awesome...Mac for eye-shadows and brushes... and Mascara...fabulash by Maybelline, is the ultimate favorite. So you see, I may spend a lot on my brushes, because the fact is that no matter what makeup you buy, if you don't have the right equipment to apply it, the makeup will not look good...Go to ULTA 3, and have some fun...they have a huge variety of stuff, from the inexpensive to the expensive. and remember to blend, blend, blend.
L'Oreal is very good, it's owned by the same company that owns Lancome and the products are VERY similar. Revlon is good as well. I would stay away from Cover Girl...comparing Cover Girl to MAC is like comparing hamburger to filet mignon!

So for school I have to do a project about the language used in advertising. My group is working on how the language of different priced makeup brands use language differently.

So we are going to choose three brands, one thats sort of cheap, that you can easily buy in drug stores (we were going to use covergirl), one thats mid-priced, the kind you would find in departament stores (maybe clinique) and one really high end, something that would be a really big contrast.

No, it's not always better. Most of the time it's the same, and companies think that just by putting a well-know, designer name on the products will make them better, but it doesn't. And I would especially reccommend not buying those expensive products, since they seem to wear off easily.

I wear teenage-styled makeup and love f.y.i.arbonne. It's natural makeup that doesn't hurt your skin, but looks cute and sophisticated. It lasts a long time and comes in lots of different colors. The mascaras come with a plastic comb, so that your lashes aren't stuck together. Shop at MAC or Sephora, that's where I get all my stuff. But you don't HAVE to have expensive makeup to get a good look because when your wearing it, nobody knows what brand your wearing. If your starting out wearing it you should wear the cheap stuff to get the hang of things first and to see what colors go with your skin, what looks good, what doesn't, etc...
It depends on your age.MAC is good, great eyeshadows, nice lipgloss and I love their liquid eyeliners. MAC fundations if you are on your 20's. If you are on your 30's and up I suggest Lancome or Chanel foundation because they have pigments and ingredients that work really well for your skin. As of mascaras, I sugest you get the D脡FINICILs mascara from lancome, your lashes will look fab.

Definitely MAC because they have a huge selection and are relatively cheap for being a good quality brand. $14.50 for an eyeshadow is pretty darn good, if you ask me. And it's even cheaper ($12 something?) if you buy them in palette form. MAC sells empty eyeshadow palettes (they have ones with 4 slots, and I think 12 slots) and you just pick any colors you want and fill it up. Pretty handy.

One tip: Go to Sephora (or anywhere that sells Urban Decay) and get Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion. It will be the best thing you ever buy. You put it on your lids before using eyeshadow, liner, etc and your eyeshadow stays on until you take it off. I could go to sleep in it and my eye makeup would still be perfect the next morning! I once tried rubbing my makeup off with a bit of water and it still would not come off. Also, use only a dab of it. A little goes a long way!

Okay, I'm almost 13, and I don't wear a lot of make up. When I do wear it, I try to make it look as natural as possible. The only makeup stuff I own is Dream Matte Powder (I forget who makes it), some light and medium blue Bonnie Belle eye shadow shades, some brown-ish- bronze-ish Alway eye shadow shades, Great Lash mascara, Almay blush, lots of lip gloss, and a huge collection of brushes and ya know makeup applying thingys. i have already tried dabbing a lil bit of water on one of my brushes and mixing it into my eyeshadow to make it appear more vivid.

The best way to make your makeup look high end is to do your own research. L'Oreal HiP has great eyeshadows for about $5 or 6 at Walmart or look for a buy one get one half off (or free) at CVS or other drugstores.

I would recommend looking for a good concealer. Go to http://www.makeupalley.com/ to find product reviews on personal care items (makeup, perfume, skincare, etc).

makeup doesnt ever ';look'; cheap when its on your face. If you apply bright colors unevenly and you dont blend the right way then YOU will look cheap. The Best way to make it look like you know what you're doing and what you're buying is to actually know how to apply makeup correctly. If you just put on some purple eyeshadow with red lipstick it looks gross. You have to learn how to blen colors and define your cheeks and properly apply foundation..... all in all , you need find a look that you want , then buy the makeup for that look and THEN learn how to correctly apply the makeup to your features!

Wet'n'Wild and Milani are great cheap brands. Not everything from them works the best, but there's a few select things, like the liquid and pencil eyeliners and lipliners, and nail polishes work wonders.

The best way to make cheap make-up look expensive is to apply it properly. Watching and learning some make-up techniques on youtube can be beneficial.

And there are some really great eyeshadow palates out there that you can buy with something like twenty different color shadows at about $20-25 and it'll last you a really long time. Think of it as an investment. =

first off, its not about how much it is, its about how you wear it BUT it your mascara cost like 2 bucks, your probably getting crap. try MARK.COM because its pretty cheap and its good quality. it may be more on the expensive side becuz some things are over $10 BUT ITS WORTH IT OK!! you may also want to try going to youtube and search for ';cheap make up tutorial'; and im sure you will find TONS of videos on how to apply the make up and it will tell you what brand and how much and where you can get it. First off, I am going into makeup. I have one friend who almost strictly lives in Sephora, which is an almost stupidly expensive makeup store. With that said, I can honestly say I do makeup better than she does, AND I will go into sephora with my cheap *** makeup from Walmart and they will compliment me, both Employees and customers. Lesson is don't ever think you need expensive makeup to look good. I'm not saying all BUT alot of girls buy expensive makeup to compensate, such as my friend.

Now on to a way for you to do your makeup. The easiest way to make your makeup look close to professional is to do a gradient. Anyone's eyes can do this. First, you start off with a light color, with that natural look you want to pull try a cream, light yellow or a white. Then take a brown, NOT A DARK brown but a plain brown, and put it on your ring finger(this is the weakest finger and won't hurt your eye) and dap a spot in the outside corner of each eye. Now lightly blend inwards so it gradiate from the light color to the dark color. Apply eyeliner, for you i'd use a dark brown, black might be too dramatic for you. For eyeliner, NEVER apply it completely around your eye! You will look like a tramp and a raccoon. Apply it along the edge of your eyelashes(above them) all along the top getting slightly thicker towards the outside edge. Then there are two things you can do with the bottom, 2/3rds or 1/3rd along the bottom of the eye. For you, I would do only 1/3 because your eyes are brown (this makes them not as poppy as blue) and frankly your eyes are on the smaller side. If you do 2/3rd this will make them look smaller whereas 1/3 will make them look wider, which you want. For the corner of your eye, just connect the two eyeliner lines, and leave it. This entire makeup effect will open up your eyes and make them look bigger. I have been doing this effect for my makeup for years and it still amazes people because once you get the blending down right, it looks professional, and most high school girls haven't a clue how to do it! They think putting just one eyeshadow color on there is what professionals do! silleh girls!

PS you may look at this and freak out, IT'S EASY! I promise! I just went into ALOT of detail!

ALSO if you want to venture aay from browns this effect can be used for any set of colors! For your eye color i would suggest a mauve or a purple! Brown eyes look GORGEOUS with purple!

You are just paying for the name, if you buy it at the mall the store adds a markup so it adds up.

I recommend what I use: Coonobabe - South Beach style brand similar to chanel, or bobbi brown except much less expensive.

Not only do most professionals use it but it's one kind of make up that works and has a good variety of colors to choose from. Also, it's good make up and goes on well. Because i wear a lot of make up myself %26amp; when i use cheap make up, it irritates my skin. Some cheap make up i'm actually allergic too. But other than that MAC is just a really good brand to use. It blends better with your skin tone better. Plus, it stays on it doesn't fade like most make up you find in stores.

If you are interested in Avon, it's your best bet to sell it yourself. You can get started with $10...and once you're ';selling'; it, you get 50% off makeup that's already pretty darn cheap. If you're not interested in really aggressively selling it, it's not a problem, you aren't required to. You can just use the discount for yourself and maybe friends or family. I'm sure Avon reps (well, some of them at least) may frown upon this, but hey, it happens. I know several people who do it for just this reason. And hey, if you can profit just enough to pay for your own makeup, it's a win win!

You can go to Avon's website and find out how to sign up if you choose to. Or else I know that you can order directly off their website. Eye make up can stay on better if you cleanse your lids to remove oils first, and then use foundation or concealer or powder to create a base for the shadows to stay.

Try Revlon ColorStay Eyeshadow or Almay's Intense i-Color. Both have nice colors and good staying power.

A nice long-lasting lipstick is Revlon's ColorStay overtime sheer lipcolor.Non expensive makeup???

If you are looking for something inexpensive that works well, then try Rimmel products. They are fantastic!! I really like thier blushes and lip glosses. Their eyeshadows are great as well.

If you have a little more money to spend, then try MAC products. Their make-up is very pigmented, so a little goes a long way. I LOVE their eyeshadows!! I have sooooo many colors. I used to love to play with them and come up with differnt combinations. (I had a baby months ago, so no time now!) All of their make-up products are great. They also have a variety of color.

I don't know about the eye shadow but I can tell you which lipgloss stays on for a very long time, it's Max Factor MAXwear lip colors. It has a cylinder shape with two different colors on each side. I have tried it is almost as if the color is absorbed by your lips because you can touch them and it will feel as if you have nothing on, but you can see it. Ok first off, if you're just putting this eyeshadow on bare and hoping it'll stay....guess again! You have to put some base on your eyelids. What I mean by base is either concealer or foundation. Then apply any eyeshadow on, and it should stay on longer atleast. I use to have the same problem, and realized I was doing it all wrong. Lemme know if that helps!

Is exspensive makeup better then inexspensive makeup? I don't see myself paying $25-$100+ for eye shadow, lip gloss, mascara etc because a designers name on it. The only thing I pay for thats over $20 is my foundation and I hate doing that.

I doubt there really are many differences. Bacteria will grow in expensive make-up just like it will grocery brand make-up so as long as you replace things regulary, I say, use what you like. Expensive, quality cosmetics contain higher amounts of pigment so you end up using less of it. Most shadows, blushes, etc., contain about 70% pigment.

Inexpensive cosmetics contain much less pigment, usually only about 10%. You will use much more of the product to get the right shade.

I have shadows that have lasted me about 10 years because there is so much pigment in them. (I have lots of make-up! ) Some people talk about bacteria growing in cosmetics, but when it is a pressed shadow or blush, it will last you longer- especially if you are the only one using it because the bacteria that grows in it is yours %26amp; you are used to it.

MAC's shadows are wonderful %26amp; w/ tons of pigment. They only cost about $13.00 for a pot of shadow. Cheek colour is about $16.00. Their prices are incredibly reasonable.

Try this test: put an inexpensive shadow on your hand %26amp; then a higher priced one %26amp; see what the different is. Many cosmetic companies are owned by the same parent company. Buerjois is made at the same factory w/ the same ingredients as Chanel. Most of the time, you are paying for fancy packaging %26amp; their advertising.
frist off all it depends on the brand two not all makeups are endorresed by celaberties what ur buying if you buy designer is better quiatly in the long run my suggestion? 1. the stuff you use all the time by quality it'll be better for you skin 2. the cheaper stuff is fine to wear but if you like to experment start with the cheaper stuff. 3. i know where you coming from, and there's probably several others that do too. i refuse to pay out the ears for something that's going to make me look alright for a few hours. in my opinion, you can get the same out of either cheap or expensive products. my eyeliner is 99 cents at wal-mart...it does better than a 4 dollar pencil i bought from a beauty supply store, i know 4 dollars isn't much, but why spend it if i don't have to. the only real difference in expensive makeup is the 'image' people like. they think expensive makeup makes you look like you've got the money to spend.

oh well. i prefer the cheap stuff. i can have a bigger variety in colors, textures, and a few other features in makeup that matter. it's tough for me to pay $8 for a foundation palette when i need it, but i have to shell out for that because that's probably the most important part of my makeup routine.
I agree with you 100%. Really, the only cosmetic you need to invest $$$ in is a good foundation b/c cheap foundation makes you look awful! Everything else I get as cheaply as I can.... although I don't go super cheap like Wet n' Wild brand at WalMart.

Mascara - definitely go cheap b/c you are supposed to replace the tube after 3 months anway. L'Oreal and Maybelline make good mascaras.

Eyeshadow - I do have some MAC ones that I got at outlet stores...but I think L'Oreal is just as good.

Lipstick - I also have some MAC, but again L'Oreal makes excellent lipsticks, nailpolish, etc.

I think in terms of discount/drug store brands L'Oreal is high quality at a good price. If you go too cheap, then the cosmetics don't last at all or they look reall bad (like chalky eyeshadow) when you put them on.

There is a sense of luxury with expensive products. I love shopping at Sephora..... makes me feel so pampered. The expensive products in part you are paying for name and packaging, but usually the products have less of the irritating/cheap ingredients, more pigment (such as in the case of lipstick and eyeshadow), better scents, etc. You have to be selective, I guess. I have found the expensive products irritate my sensitive skin a lot less, and are overall nicer and more effective. And of course I love carrying around the pretty packaging. Slave to advertising? Maybe. But I am a firm believer that you get what you pay for.

Well I have used both and now I go with the more expensive. I find it looks much better and it lasts longer on your face. Also you do not have to use as much so you wont have to buy it as often. For example when applying eye shadow, you have to put a lot more on with the cheaper product. You should go to a place like Dillards and get a free makeover at the makeup counter. Tell them you just want to wear it for the day and see what you think. Once you find the products you like you can get some of them on ebay for a lot less.
If you have senitive skin I would use the best to prevent future skin problems. However if your skin is not you can take a chance but buy a good cleaner.
Many department store brands are similar to drug store but usually in life you get what you pay for the cheap products have cheaper ingredients and fillers that can clog your pores and give you other problems, I swear by one brand alone now after trying various products that's BEE LUSCIOUS COSMETICS all natural very high quality products that leave my skin looking and feeling wonderful. My skin texture has never looked this great thanks to the quality Bee Luscious has, I would try them you will love them as much as I do and because of the results you won't even care how much it is..
The price of makeup has nothing to do with the quality most of the time. Normal brands usually work much better than designer anyway. Try a few normal brands and see what works for you. I really like the Loreal Natural Match for concealer, but Boots (a London favorite) at Target for mascara and eyeshadow. It's all a matter of what works best for you, not whose name is on it.
I use mineral girlz and it does not cost a lot of money but it gives me the coverage and look that big name brands can. So I figure why pay more when I can get the same thing for less.
Alot of cheap makeup really does not work that well ... There are some that do though, True Match Foundation works greast! and it's only a little over 10 bucks! True Blend also works really great and is also cheap! but I will tell you that Chanel makeup is great! There glosses and foundation... Hope that helps ya!
I am a make up artist and everybody has asked that question! Some time it is a matter of the ingredients that are used in a certain name brand product. Some things may have a better shelf life. But if your skin isn't particularly sensitive then I wouldn't worry about it. I love Walmart eyeshadow and my Maybeline mascara that only cost just over $5!!!! I have clients who ask me all the time, ';What make up do you use?! It always looks so good!'; When I tell them they can't believe. You have to splurge on some items (like your $20 foundation) but other things, you can buy the next best thing. I saw that you were brown skinned like me. The trick with eyeshadow is to make sure that your skin is moisturized first b/c it will stick better. Conceal if needed, and brushes make a huge difference. If you need to use a color that may not show up well, then just wet your brush first and then apply the shadow. This will make the color more intense. And always make sure that you use proper skin care (cleansing, moisturizing etc...) and products for your skin type (dry, oily, acne or combination). ALOT (not all) of the cheap stuff works just as well. Hope that answered your question.

Chanel is the most expensive. Followed by Urban Decay and finally M.A.C.

with Chanel you are getting a shadow in a compact with a mirror and brush. The others you just get the single shadow color.

Chanel shadows are around $26 for the single and $52 for the Quads. They do have more of a limited color selection and you are of course paying for the name. Which is more expensive? (makeup)?
Chanel. They are the best though - not with eyeshadow, MAC is the eyeshadow guru. But I love the quality of their eyeliner best, especially the waterproof.
Chanel. Personally I don't believe their eyeshadows work nearly as well as other brands, either. Very limited variety as well.

MAC and Urban Decay are my favourite semi-expensive brands, they have a nice product range which appeals to a lover of bright makeup, like myself. Make Up For Ever is amazing as well, it is on the expensive side but they have gorgeous products I have never seen anywhere else. Laura Geller does amazing mineralized products, some of her powders I like better than MAC's. I will always love my Chanel Glossimers, and the quality is generally very good. Dior, same deal. I am a sucker for Diorshow mascara.

MAC has some of the greatest makeup i've ever used. you get what you pay for with makeup. either way, the more money you spend the better the product will likely be.

I've tried products from all above and luckily most were gifts, and were worth their weight in gold. :)

My advice would be to buy a high quality foundation. If your foundation is all screwy, your makeup will be screwy. Then I'd imagine you could do whatever you want as far as companies go.

If you can afford it, I would go with the high quality stuff. Whenever I can I go and buy some M.A.C. It lasts a long time and works great. But a good friend likes Bareminerals, it depends on your opinion. YOU'RE the one wearing the makeup, right? :-)

The good products do not tend to wear off as quickly, feel great when you put them on, and do not clump or smudge as easily or at all. The cheap stuff works, but it's just not as reliable.

However, it doesn't matter how nice your makeup is if you can't apply it properly. If you learn to apply is in the right places and the right way for your skin type and face shape, you can wear any brand and it will look fabulous :-).

I would suggest you read a book to get your advice. Personally, I found the book Makeup Makeovers by Robert Jones to be the best one out there. It's practically my Bible :-). My sister and I began using his suggestions and advice and we both constantly hear how great our makeup looks. My sister had someone stop her yesterday (Total stranger) and say, ';Your makeup is so beautiful!'; It was really cool.

I think its pretty much all the same. For myself I tend to spend a bit more on my basics, my bronzer, concealer, loose powder. I would spend more on foundation as well if I didn't absolutely love the ones from Rimmel. Some drugstore products are absolutely amazing, Jane and Rimmel would have to be my two favourites. Some stores will have testers while others will not, try to find a drugstore with a decent beauty department and ask the expert on site if there are testers available.
Im not saying that drugstore makeup doesn't work, but i can definately tell the difference in quality between the two and prefer spending the extra bucks for better make up like the second examples you listed.
Drug store quality flakes, cakes and does not work. The best name brand product is Bee Luscious Cosmetics, great flawless look every single time.

To compare and say Drug Store Quality is as good as Name Brand is to say that a cubic zirconia is the same as a real diamond. Simply not the case.
I use department store makeup exclusively for the quality. I have my eyeshadows last longer than a couple hours and I could not find a single good drugstore eyeliner, but I've found good stuff in everything at the counters. Not to mention that you can try everything at the counter or in the store, so you can really make a good decision.
I think it varies from brand to brand. I LOVE Lancome, but I also like Loreal. That is not suprising because Loreal produces Lancome. I would rather use Revlon than M.A.C. because the only M.A.C. product I bought I spent $20 on and it was an absolute waste of money. (It was some black pigment powder I bought for my eyes.) I also think it depends on the product you are buying. I would rather have Lancome foundation or Estee Lauder powder over Covergirl any day, but when it comes to eyeliner and lipstick I usually go cheaper. I also think that Covergirl Lash Exact mascara is about as good as Lancome's top rated mascara.
As far as lip glosses or eyeshadows go, I go for the cheaper drug store brands

But when it comes to my skin, and powders and foundations, I definitely want ot spend the extra money and MAC is my store! I reall think there is a difference when it comes to your foundation or powder, or bronzer and how long the make-up stays put, as well as how my skin feels when I am using it!

Truly and honestly, there is a difference in quality.

However, M.A.C., though ';expensive makeup'; is not very good.

If you want to head the drugstore makeup route, Physicians Formula is really good and it is high in quality.

It's like expensive makeup, but half the price! Their products are really good, and they have mineral makeup for sensitive skin.

Otherwise, Clinique is really good too! :)

But, it also depends on what makeup you're getting. If you want eyeshadow, for example, and there is one color you love that Revlon has, go ahead an get it.

But for foundation, blush, etc. I would suggest better quality makeup such as Lancome, Clinique, etc.

Bare Minerals is awful! It's full of fillers and bismuth which can make people itch or break out with acne. I cant believe people buy the stuff.

There are loads of brands out there. Everyday minerals is great! It's purer and far cheaper. They do free sample kits from their website
I used Bare Minerals for a while, then I found a ';knock off'; brand on ebay.. MUCH cheaper and just as good. There are several brands on ebay, see which one is right for you!

I don't think that the makeup is too expensive. At Ulta or Sephora, they often carry ';starter kits'; with several different products including foundation, blush, mineral veil and several brushes and usually cost about $60. The products last for a really long time. I swear by them! Check the link for the starter kit carried by Ulta.

if its up your alley then try online...there are many mineral makeup products that are cheaper than national brands. One is Every day minerals. Way cheaper than Bare minerals. Or Ebay has a lot of mineral makeup brands that are as good quality for way less cost. I have tried a lot of them and only disliked a few. The ones i disliked were only because I like talc. And some are irritated by that so there are brands which exclude that ingredient. It makes for a soft focus effect. But other than that eyeslipsface.com is great and all products are just a buck.

in my experience they work just as good except for the fact that they may not last as long. for example if you put on covergirl eyeshadow it may not last as long as mac, but u know what that is totally fine cuz in my experice covergirl lasted as long as i wanted.. sooo.. therefore i dont thikn thres much of a dfifernece. but there could be a difference in the way of the material its made of.. what it contains.. like other brands may! be healthier for your face.. idk tho. lol. just get covergirl its fine! and really, the main thing is the way you put teh makeup on your face, the TECHNIQUE, than what brand you use!!Is covergirl and drugstore brands of makeup ok? do they work just as good as the expensive brands?
covergirl's powder foundation is amazing! it stays on all day!!

and Rimmel makes a liquid foundation that stays on for 16 hours!! It is called lasting effects. I actually think it is better than expensive brands. All other liquid foundation melts and sweats off my face instantly, but the foundation that Rimmel makes actually stays!!

and as for mascara, there are some in drugstores that are just for certain colors of eyes to help bring them out. they are amazing!!

It depends on the product, and your skin. For higher end stuff you really do pay for the name. I use a lot of high end products but there are drugstore brands I like so much better. I love loreal telescopic mascara, it's the best mascara I've used in a while, lash blast is pretty good as well! Revlon color stay foundation is actually comparable to MAC studio fix fluid, or makeup forever HD foundation. The only downside to it is that it doesn't have a pump and more germs get into it. Jane has pretty good eyeshadows, I have a few and I'm liking them, they're very smooth and velvet-like. Hmm... I like wet n wild liquid liners, love the fine brush. There illuminating powders are okay too. Hope this helps :D
Nope. And I will probably be the only person to tell you why exactly. When a brand gets a patent for their product they say how much money, time and active ingredients they have put in. This is how the price gets determined. Now the cheap brands are not tested for clinical results and things like that. Look at an end line product like an investment that won't really harm your skin as much as something that is full with chemicals and goes bad after a month.
the expensive brands usually come in more shades and colors depending on what type of make up, and are of better quality.. in eyeshadows, mascara..etc

but many things are just as good to i think

Yea they are fine if they work for your. They have some good stuff you just need to look around. Covergirl has nice blushes and lipglosses, maybellene has a nice mascara (fullnsoft) almay has a nice eyeliner, rimmel has nice lipglosses and lipsticks, and nyx has lovely eyeshadows and lipgloss!!!!
More or less, depends on what you want. Drugstore products don't last very long. I've had a problem with the liners and mascara crumbing and getting all over my face.

Over all, no. They are nowhere near brands like MAC, Ben Nye, ect. But, that doesn't mean that you should go and spend a ton of money on their products.

Drugstore brands are just as good as the expensive ones.But if you have very senitive skin(like mine),some of the more expensive brands carry hypoallergenic make-up.
They don't stay on as long. My skin is quite oily though so I try to use good brands. And for things like eye shadows and lip glosses most drugstore brands don't have a great selection of colours.

I have heard one youtuber mentioning that it is because we have a beauty tax but still that must be a huge tax! Because there isnt enough competition in australia. Take Supermarkets for example (Woolworths, Coles and Aldi). The lack of competitions means that they could negotiate with each other to charge their costumers higher prices in order to earn higher profits for their shareholders.

Othe reasons include employee wages, inflation, transportation costs (espicially now that fuel prices are high and a lot of products used in the beauty industry are also derived from crude oil like packaging).

I totally agree! Now, I am a fashionista and I do adore fashion and good makeup along with it but I cannot take it when I go shopping and the sales clerk push me off to the side and literally talk me into buying these $60 cremes that doesn't even work.

I hate it, too. My mom bought the CILS design pro dual end mascara from Lancome($35.00). When I applied it made my eye lashes look like spider legs. The lancome person even applied it it still looked the same. I don't even like lancome. They test on animals :(

depends of what kind of make up you use it for. All you have to really do is use a good brand mosturize and protect it with face sunscreen that runs for $30 and last you a month. and after that you could basically use any off the counter blush, eyeshadow, or anything like that. As long as you use the good kind to protect your skin. And buy a real good lip protection with spf and then you could apply any off the counter gloss you want. It all about what is under your make-up.
I think some of the more expensive brands are way better than drugstore makeup. They are finely milled, and have a richer pigment density. I go for some cheaper mascaras, but all my color products are more high end b/c I find they work better for me. Plus, they have less cheap junky fillers in them.

For everyday: work, errands, etc.

1] shape and fill in brows. Recommend you get professional shaping first.

2] curl and mascara lashes

3] a little blush or tinted moisturizer

4] lip color

5] earrings! I know they are not makeup, but they help your face look 'finished'.

6] concealer -

a] dab on a bit direct over red area

b] blend edges, not middle

c] gently brush translucent powder over area to set it

These are the BASICS - get good at them, then you can branch out to:

you dont need overly expensize makeup use covergirl or avon or somthing like that. use black eyeliner on the bottom of your eyes %26amp; use mascara %26amp; then for eye shadow use a pink or purple or brown. if u dont want it to look dramatic then dont put it up to your eyebrow stay around the crease of your eye. hope i helped
If your skin is sensative, you might want to spend a little more on your foundations and stuff, just to make sure it won't clog your pores or irritate your skin. But eye makeup is as simple as picking out colors you like. I have everything from MAC, Sephora, and Benefit, to N.Y.C and Sally Girl... Try several kinds. You'll find a brand that suits you.

I have the same exact problems and I use this brand on of powder, foundation and blush and it works great! Just like any other mineral makeup, it's more pricey than regular but usually the powder is $12.00, the foundation is about the same and the blush is like $6.00. It lasts at least 3 months too, that's what I love about it! You can find them at any CVS, Walgreens or DrugMart. And they have sales a lot of times too, like buy one powder and get a free blush, which is what I usually do. Good luck!

I don't normally buy high end makeup but i was really happy with estee lauder because it matched my skin exactly and was light-weight. i tried ever drugstore brand and it was heavy and never matched. some of my friends think it's insane to spend 27-32$ on just foundation alone but my skin is extremely hard to match! i don't think i'm being a makeup snob because i think if it's going on your face for the whole day it should be really good because bad foundation can make your face worse and waste your money...

Nah, it's totally worth it. Foundation is an important makeup item as far as I'm concerned, and if you don't wear lot of makeup overall it's even more important that your skin look nice.

some of it (eye liner, powder, liquid foundation) i've found are better than the general drug store stuff. It's got a better feel to it, covers better, and doesn't create skin problems. Things like mascara, I actually like the cheaper stuff (maybelline).

Yes! They use finer quality ingredients and the colour pigments they use in eyeshadows and lipsticks are better.

Obviuously most brands you are paying for the ';name'; as well, but most of the more expensive brands are far better quality.
They are better than what you can buy from the drug store, but it is not worth it until you are much older and have been wearing the same colors for years. The quality goes up quite a bit as the price does, but if you arent 100% sure what looks best on you yet, its best not to try and buy the expensive brands because the drug store ones arent bad at all.

The colors dont really chage that much, but with the price you are buying more color and less filler. The reason why much older women dont look good in cover girl and almay is because there is a lot of glitter and other fillers in their makeup, but when you get expensive makeup it has little to none unless you buy the shiny ones. The gittler they have is actual bits of glitter, not something that is mixed into a powder. Thats why younger girls look really good with cheap makeup.

From years of trial and error across a wide range of brands....(some more expensive, some less expensive).

I prefer Clinique for sunscreen, powder (compact), and moisturizer. This brand is the only one I've found that doesn't irritate my skin (it's very sensitive).

Lancome for concealer and foundation. The colors match me the best, and the makeup blends well.

Every other type of make-up I use a variety of brands depending on what I see.

Rule of thumb (as with anything) you get what you pay for....
not always....sometimes, drug store brands are just as good...but for coverage and lasting effects, you would do better to buy higher quality and priced products....foundations and powders would be the most important, as they are made with finer ingredients and stay on the skin longer and usually have spf and retinols built in which means they are working for you as well as making you look better.....i find also, that most eye shadows go on better, stay on longer and have better color quality if they are from Lancome and Mac, they just have more pigments...so if you are worried about makeup lasting and looking very professional, buy the better products, otherwise stay in the drug store brands.

no...read the ingrediants on the expensive brands then the store brand if they are the same than the store brand than buy the store brand!!! =)

If the truth was known by the general public, some of the cheaper brands are actually made by the top companies, but marketed as generic. That way, they get buyers from both ends of the spectrum: those who can afford the expensive brands and those who have to buy the lower-priced items. So don't be afraid of the lower priced make-up, it may be the exact same brand that poor little Paris uses!
Yes, better quality. Color matching. But you dont need to buy the whole line. Just a good foundation, lipstick, eye shadow and blush.
In all honesty i think all 'popular' make up is kind of not ok ....and i really see no real difference between the ones you buy at the drug stores and the more expensive ones ...however i do see a Huge difference between all of those and organic make up.

Unlike the non organicmake up,the organic make up does not help you get more wrinkles and does not poison your skin with over 150 'toxic' susbances.

I can definitely tell a difference. I use both store brands and the more expensive kinds....the expensive kinds last longer and don't seem so oily. Plus the more expensive brands will let you test their products before you buy them and make sure the foundations/powders/etc. match your skin before you leave the store. They might cost a little more than say Cover Girl, but at least you don't have orange colored skin.
It depends on how it will works for you girls, you know what?.... when a girl asked me something, which is more effective??? these brands or brands in the drugstore???, I did tell her, i prefer to the drugstore, because it was prescribed by the doctors and if im not mistaken, it is much more cheaper than those.... but it really depends on how would you like the product...
